Tailgate adjustment
I have a 1991 Silver Anniversary and I am having a problem with the tailgate closing. In the winter I noticed that the tailgate was not catching on the left hand side, if you pushed on the left side while slowing lowering the handle it would usually catch. The truck has been sitting for a few months waiting for a rebuild and today I found that neither side wants to close. It holds for a second but if you pull on the tailgate it opens. Is there an adjustment for this? Thanks

Check the linkage arms inside the gate and possibly adjust the striker plates.
The tailgate will not (should not...) open unless the window is ALL the way down. Sometimes the handle linkage gets loose and that has an effect too.

I took a look at it today and it appears that on the left side the hinge does not close at all. When you push in on the hinge it just stays open. The right side will close but pops open real easy, like when you roll up the window. I am going to pull the panel and take a look this weekend.
