Car And Driver Pickup Test

Hey guys, this is the first time I've posted in the F-150 forum, but I've always been an avid fan of them. Today I was reading the Car and Driver in which they tested five pickups: Nissan Titan, Ford F-150, Dodge Ram 1500, (new) Toyota Tundra, and the Chevy Silverado. All four doors, all 4wd, and all short boxes. Sadly the Ford took 5th because of having the smallest box and a "weak engine." While the engine does lack a bit, in my opinion it's not bad at all; but then again, I'm coming from a '98 Expedition. I've driven plenty of new body style F-150s and I even test drove a new Silverado with the 5.3. While driving the Silverado, I joked that it took them almost 9 years to catch up to how great my Expedition is.

While I read the article, I couldn't help but think that they tested these trucks inappropriately. They should realize that they can get a 6'5" bed in the F-150 Supercrew. It seemed a bit biased in my opinion and we all know what opinions are like . . . Anyway, I wanna open it up to you guys. What are all your thoughts on their rankings? 1. Silverado, 2. Titan, 3. Tundra, 4. Ram, and 5. F-150

Unfortunately I couldn't find a link on Car and Driver's website to show you the article.

The Ford engine hold up best under stress of a bigger load.

Looked at the same article and kinda laughed. Basically they are ranking on HP and 0-60 mph times. Silverado is brand new and time will tell if they last longer than previous ones. Titan's reliability is horrible. Tundra is brand new and they are basing on the optional 5.7 l engine that many won't buy. Tundra 4.7 l doesn't pull well at all. The dodge has more power, but everyone knows how well the drive line lasts. They should rank based on lasting impression, not just first impression. I love my Screw and the 5.4 has all I would ever want. I didn't buy a truck to win races. Just my opinion.

Rankings, schmank-ings

Their results don't sway my opinion either way as I suspect is the case with most self-respecting people.

Trucks arent for race, there for getting the job done and ford does that best, fords slower who cares still hauls ***, and can take the stres of a bigger load much better on long trips. Truck tests are to sell the crappy trucks. make the better one look bad, Ford F-150 only truck that well take 3000 pounds and do it well. Frame still better than all of them. looks better, you feel like your in a truck. next F-150 well blows doors away we well see all this but F-150 well finaly be #1 considering it still is. but they well still find something wrong with it hahaha. Ford will always out sell these trucks. because they last longer and are work trucks.

so, today my one buddy calls me....he has a new chebby....likes it a lot and it's a nice truck....has the 5.3 and all the goodies....extended cab 6.5 bed exc....

so, he's hauling wood and he calls me and says that his truck is out working today and wants to know where mine is....and i said in the garage nice and clean.....so he's like...well, you want to see what it can do come over and tow a load of wood for me ....

so, me being the person that will not back down to a challeng goes over and hooks up to the trailer....we tow it down the road...truck is doing great....we come to the only hill we have to go up....i had it out of OD and he did also when he was hauling....i just got into the throttle at the bottom and never slowed down or downshifted going up the hill.....we get to the top and he goes "WOW, my truck slowed down and downshifted and yours didn't do either"...

Yeah - We all have an opinion, I wonder what the writer drives; a car?
The new Silverado looks pretty good and the new Tundra looks good too.
No doubt Toyota makes a great truck, we'll see how this bigger one does.
When I bought my '06 I spent almost a year deciding on the one for me.
I drove them ALL, watched 'em all, talked to owners, and read everything I could get my hands on.
I love my F150 and if buying again today - I'd still pick the Ford.

Titans had brake and rear end issues in 2004/mid year 2005. Nissan replaced the brake systems free, because of brake judder (there was never a recall) and extended the brake warranty. The rear ends are a Dana 44, were designed in the 1940's and used by many companies (including Ford since 1948). The spider gears were cast on some of the late 44's, and that and the wider wheels and 300+HP has led to axle seal leaks and blown diffys...there is no recall on the rear ends, that I have read anywhere.

I love my 2004 Screw, too. I just wish Ford would fix my brake judder. So far, three sets of rotors have been replaced in four visits to the dealer. The first time, they turned the rotors (unbeknownst to me), and warped rotors should never be turned. The warped and turned rotors worked fine for a week, then the judder returned. The truck currently has 17,000 miles on it.

The Car & Drivel mag the tests are in, is currently on newstands.

I say again...car mags take advertising from car makers...because of that, you'll never get fair or true results of any road test...be it on a Ford, or a Wombat V12. GM and Toyota are the largest spender of $$$$, so no one wants to flame their vehicles to risk losing those advertising dollars.

I read that comparison.

I really don't get how Nissan's gotta have it 16/25, but Ford's 10/25. I think sales prove gotta have it factor.

Sales prove, proven trucks, consecitive years only to remain always.

Tranlation:
Ford has most sales.
they are proven 250,000 and all you gotta do is maintain. like anything.
They will always be top seller.

Let me tell y'all a little story of how reliable the Titan is. I work with this guy at work who drives a titan so we go back and forth all the time. Well we had to work one saturday and it had been cold the night before and he shows up late for work so he jumps out of the truck runs around to the passenger side and starts unwrapping his seatbelt from around the door So I ask him what happen and proceeds to tell me that he couldn't get into the driverside door so he went around to the passenger side door that he could get into but he couldn't get it shut. All I had to say is my ford won't fail me.

I agree. We didn't buy Mustangs, we bought trucks. This is the best riding truck I have had yet. It will still outhaul anything on the market. The magazines ARE slanted towards the advertisers. Look at the numbers...... Still #1 in sales. Gotta be doin' something right. Even with my driveline vibration I would buy this truck again.
