Well, I finally found a u-join that works, the parts guy had to mix two different joints together to make it work, but he cut me a deal on it so its all good.
Probelm is at ride height the driveshaft is all the way compressed. I guess the d70u has a longer pinion yoke... my question is if I do the shackle flip in the back for 4inches or so of lift will this be enough so that I won't get into trouble with it setup like this? I figured since little changes make such a big difference on the bronco with such a short shaft it may be enough... and give me an excuse to spend money on lift parts
a shackle flip in the rear actually wont make a huge difference. where you will see the difference is if you dropped the front mount. you will prolly wanna go ahead and cut it down an inch or so.
go ahead and try the shackle flip, but i doubt you will stretch the d/s out enough to wheel it
I took it back in the woods and beat on it pretty good today, man that felt good after 3months and we got dubzilla's bronco running today too, but he needs a new radiator.. i'm sure he'll post up about that later.
anyway, is there anything else to do besides shortening? Sounds pricey (I haven't looked around though) I guess I'll just go with the shackle flip and see what happens, because I want to do that anyway and if it'll help...
Drive shaft shortening? Should be relativley cheap. You could do it yourself and then take it to a drive shaft shop to have them put the alignment on it and weld it up, oh and balance it.
A shackel flip might not be a good idea if its as bad as you say. By lifting only that end of the spring, you will actually rotate your axle forward a tiny bit. . .maybe not enough to destroy anything, just an FYI
Shortening is the cheap way to go. It gets expensive when you need to lengthen a driveshaft.
Don't know if the shackle flip would work like you need, but I know when I put a 6" lift on my bronco I had to lengthen both my driveshafts(I actually bought the one for the rear for cheap that was alittle longer than I needed and had it shortened).
The shackle flip will rotate the axle alittle forward, but might give enough to not put it in a bind.
I called a local shop here when I needed a d-shaft shortened. They quoted me $60 to shorten a shaft. I went a head and did it myself though after kubota gave me the step-by-step way to do it proper.
