Hello all, Thanks for having such an informative site. Perhaps ya'll can help me with this one. I have an 89 4x4 that I'm playing around with. The other day the fuel pump started while the truck was parked, I turned the ignition onand off and it stopped. I went to drive it and it wouldn't crank, no fuel pump. I changed relays and the in-tank pump would turn on, not the in-line. now, nothing. It appears the relay is burned up. I can't find a short anywhere. but I'v got no power to the inertia switch. any ideas??
"Wouldn't crank" means you need to look at the power to the Ignition switch, Safety Switch, Starter Solenoid, Battery Cables and the Starter.
If the Fuel Pumps do not run for one second when you turn on the key to the run position then you need to check power to the Ignition switch, EEC Computer, Fuel Pump Relay. Try grounding the coil of the fuel pump relay at pin #6 of the test connector to see if they run.
If the fuel pump relays contacts are burning up then you have a short to ground or a bad fuel pump on the rail.
As soon as I know more of what you are talking about we can zero in on the problem and give you some diagrams if needed.
