Question Are these normal guage readings?

  • when my 2006 F250 ps is at idle it is at 300-375 on the egt guage, is this a normal temp for idle? when i am at 70 mph it is around 650-750 on the egt guage is this normal?
  • trans temp is at 140-160 on the tranny guage, is this normal?
what should these readings be at when towing 10000lbs? just wanting to know what kind of readings i can expect before i pull the 10000lb trailer?

what is normal egt reading when towing a heavy load like this?
what is normal trans temp reading when towing a load like this?

thanks for any info on this subject.

Yeah your readings are perfectly normal. Mine were the extact same as yours, then I threw on a 4in lift and 35's, my egts are now close to 800 cruising at 65mph.

i just got back from a 1000 mile trip towing a 10000lb trailer the whole time, my egts ranged from 800-1250 at 70-80mph, are these normal readings?
my transmission temp gauge went from 160-185 at the same speeds with lots of hills in the texas hill country, are these normal temps?
what is the max egt temp on of these 6.0's can take and how long can it take it for?
what is the max temp the trans can take before damage occurs on the torq shift tranny?

No worries. Good temps.

She'll handle 1250 max for extended periods. She'll be able to go over for quick bursts. Mine has popped over 2000 at the drag strip. I let her cool for 8-10 minutes at high idle between runs like that.

I've read that you shouldn't let any tranny get over 230. I've never seen mine get over 180 yet. I pull up to 10K in some hilly terrain too.

Sounds like yours is very healthy. Don't fret.

Yup, sounds perfectly normal to me.

I tow a 10,000 lb toyhauler and those are my typical temps except that I rarely see any over 1200 except that it might spike above that when pulling hard up a steep pass.

The only time I've ever seen my tranny temp go above 200 was in a 10 mile stop and go traffic jam on the I-10 outside LA. The outside temp was over 100 deg F and I had the trailer hooked up. As soon as I broke free of the traffic and go some air moving over the tranny cooler the temps dropped right back down in to the 170-180 range.
