In the Guage Detail on the message center it shows the Oil Temp and Trans Temp....am I the only one who would like to see Engine Coolant Temp and possibly an EGT temp in this same Guage Detail?
The technology is there, they just don't let us access it. It's easy to complain about what they didn't give us, but coming from an 06 with absolute dummy gauges I am very glad to have what they gave us.
As far as the EGT goes, even with all the different spots that they read EGT on this engine, there is no probe pre-turbo. In fact it appears to be quite a task to drill tap and install one for an aftermarket application on this inboard exhaust system. I've seen that with an EGR delete some people are installing the probe in the EGR blockoff plate.

This is my concern as well...but this stems from almost all of fords guages since oh..96. The sending units don't show whats really happening besides a low switch and normal and high...no progressive guaging. For instance I would like to know if the truck is running 190 or 230 degrees..because the guage is going to show normal on both instances. This is another reason why I had the edge insight on my 06...so I could have real guages. Really in hind sight I would like the guages to be like they are in my vette...shows me anything I want to know.
This much I can tell you, the gauges on this 2011 do seem to work full sweep much more so than previous models. Both the trans and the coolant temp gauges seem to react to differing conditions which is something I was not used to.
I compare the actual oil temp shown on the screen to the coolant temp indicated on the gauge to get an idea if it's actually working. EOT and ECT should remain within a certain range of each other and by comparing them the way I described above all indications are that the ECT gauge does actually work. Hopefully I will never get the opportunity to see how well it moves to the hot side of "normal"!
The trans temp gauge on the 06 would move up to the normal range at about the same time that my aftermarket gauge indicated 100*. I could then push the trans temp to over 210* in extreme circumstances and the dummy gauge would not move. The ECT was about the same. Upon blowing a head gasket during towing, reading from both the OBD port and an aftermarket gauge the ECT reached over 230* before the dummy gauge would even budge from it's normal range. Basically by the time it reacted the temperature was already out of control.
I experienced the same thing with my last truck to and even my mustang. Last summer I was pulling my boat up to the lake up here and I kept seeing 230 degrees on my Edge but the guage showed normal...Guess my point is I like to know my vehicles health at all times. But your comparison sounds logical and correct..I'll have to watch those two in relation to each other.
Weird but I almost think of my truck like my Iphone...endless possiblities with additions to updates and software.
I have been hoping that the "Truck Apps" screen on our LCD display is there in preparation for things to come via SYNC, like the "App Store" for SD's. Does not appear to be any work being done in this direction but it would be really cool to be able to upload various apps.
And, I had the Edge Insight on my 6.4 motor and the ECT was always heating and cooling faster than the EOT but they always remained 10-15 degrees apart during warm up, within just a few degrees at operating temp, and climbing uphill they would follow each other up and down within a minute or two with the coolant being the first to heat and cool down.
So, for the moment I agree with you all that the EOT temp they give us is okay for now but I do see another OBD II monitoring device in my future as the engine I run ages.

I agree. Typically EOT is lower than ECT during warm up and higher after both reach full operating temperature, but generally they should stay withint the 10-15* range of separation. A Dashdaq would be nice to have for gauges, but the Edge CTS is a little more in my price range.
