Help, wiper problem, rain is comming

Hi, when I turn off the witper switch, the wiper does not finish the travel, wiper stays right there, in the middle of the windshield. the intermitent does not work, when I turn to intermitent, it works for one second then stops.

I just replace my wiper motor, cleaned off the connection, ground etc. Still the same problem.

I looked in the book and they talk about an interval module, I think I saw that module under the dashboard.

Anyone replaced that module before? Could it be the problem?

On my 93 the module is easily accesssed by pulling out the glove box. You can clean the connectors on the card, but that wasn't my problem. The switch (if located on the end of the signal light lever, can be acesses by pulling the plastic cover off of the front of the lever. I sprayed the heck out of mine from inside that cover with WD-40 while exercising the switch, seemed to clean up all my wiper operation problems.

the module for 91 is under the dash on driver side. i took mine out and resoldered the cracked circuit board, common problem for these. the jolt from releasing the parking brake does a number on them. i wrapped the module inside an old sock and did not mount it back i the origional spot. now when i release the parking brake, i hold my foot on the pedal to prevent the pedal from hitting the stop hard.

Thanks, this forum is great, It would have took me weeks to find this problem. No one I talk to have a clue of what would be the problem. I am going on vacation in a month across USA down to California and back, around 8000 miles, hope the old rig will bring me back. I will count on you guys to help me If I have trouble.

I removed the &/?")$&/? MODULE. What a place to put it, could not find a worse place. Removed the cover and found one connection with weld broken, I will solder it and hope it works.

Thanks again

How do you get that module out. I have removed the wires and switches in front of it. I can't see what is holding it in there. Thanks!

My symptoms were NO slow speed or Intermitent. I do have high speed and wash. I replace the motor and the switch.

Datamover, that was the problem I had, intermittant only worked once when you moved the control. The variable resistance wiper(contactor) in the switch gets dirty. Try cleaning the switch with WD-40 or contact cleaner.

Prolem Solved! I got the module out. There was a screw up by the EBrake that let the module out. Thanks a bunch!.

I went to Control Panel, Edit profile to create a signature, but I don't see where you enter it.

Thanks!
Bob

I too have wiper problems, but mine seem a little different from what has been posted. When the switch is turned to any of the intermittant speeds, it is just on low. Will not auto park. If you try the washer, the wipers will stay on until the key is turned off. Does this sound like the control box.

Mine does the exact same thing I have changed the switch a year ago,.. I am betting on the wiper motor mine makes a lot of noise... I took the black cover off it and sprayed some wd 40 in seams to have made it work better but not all the time.. let me know if you find what is causeing your problem and I will do the same...

got a '90 with sort of the same thing goin on. no low speed and only high speed. washer works. really well when you're trying to turn lights off and hit wrong stem. lol
this isn't an intermittant switch, but they sell one that replaces the oem. would this be any problem jerking out the old one and replacing it with the a/m part? i can't think of any 'lectrical problems, but don't know about wiper switches.

Speedrdr, My truck is a 1991 and we have the exact same problem. I replaced the switch and motor. It turned out to be the module between the switch and the motor. If you pop off the left side of the dash (like you were removing the switch) and remove the metal frame (3 or 4 screws). If you dig your hand in there along the door side you will feel a small plastic box about (2 in by 3 in). There is a screw at the back of the box (on the fire wall side) that holds the box. You can remove the screw from the bottom of the dash right by the emergency brake. When remove the module and open it up, you will see several solder joints that are broke. It is very obvious by the wiggling metal part on the circuit board.

yea! many thanks for the trouble shooting. wasn't sure what all that medusa head of wires going back there went to...kinda hesitant to just start jerking. at least with this i'll know what i'm pulling on and if it breaks, well i'll know where it came from to put it back. (maybe) since it's not raining now and weather sunny and in 70s, gonna get in there and try to get it fixed before it does decide to drop water.

Hey I made my wipers work correctly. take off the black cover on the motor... disconnect both plugs on on the cover one on the motor... take a pick or screwdriver and gentley pry the clips holdeing the back cover on and take it off.. there are 5 clips holding it on.. there are 3 contacts inside I used tv tuner cleaner and cleaned them up and the disk they ride on.. lot of grease in there.. bent the contacts so that they had a little more pressure on them reinstalled ... plug in both plugs and now intermitant works .. both speeds work.. and the washers work and wipers will stop.. just like new not sure how long its going to last but... give it a try.....

Got the module repaired. One of the solder joint craked from what seems to look like the timer, the one that looks like a set of point in a clear plastic. Reinstalled and work fine, thanks. Il you remove this module, or disconnect it., the wiper will work but only in high speed, so in case of emergency, just disconnect and fix later.
