Stumbles when starting engine ('95 Federal)
Hey, I was just reading about the '96 5.8L having troubles with an erratic idle after warmed up and left sitting. My problem is similar. This is a 49-state '95 5.8L that stumbles from the get-go. After it is warmed up though, it is runs terrific... no, outstanding (!) for a vehicle with 80K miles.
I have no check engine light, no codes, wiggle tests negative, each sensor has been tested repeatedly individually. It's a pain to work on because after the engine has warmed up, then the problem goes away? In a nutshell, the engine seems to be starved for fuel (pressure is fine though) until warm. However, if I shift from Drive to Neutral the engine will momentarily correct itself before stumbling again. Everything has been "cleaned" but something remains amiss.
No vacuum leaks, recent tuneup, no gasket problems. Two PCMs later I am at a loss. Well, technically the shop doing the work and sending their children to college on my dollar is lost.
Any ideas on what to do next? I'm hoping that there is a clue in the computer's reaction to a transmission shift from Drive to Neutral (or any shift really) which brings about a momentary normal quality idle?
Thanks a bunch.
