I'm back with codes

howdy all,
Sorry I've not been on in a long while. i put working on the truck on hold till i got irs refund, which has happened, still working on title though. got an AE scanner and have some codes as to my smoking horrid running beast. let's try these on for size and get some opinions if you would please. thanx

Basic DTC's shown with engine running

B1318-Battery Low
B2141-NVM Config Failure (pretty sure these are from dead batteries and the truck sitting)
P0470-Exhaust Pressure Sensor
P0562- System Volt Low
P1211-Injector Control Pressure Higher/Lower than expected
P1212-Injector COntrol Pressure lower than expected (Shows on full KOER systems test)
P1247-Turbocharger Boost Pressure Low
P1670-Electronic Feedback Signal Not Detected

Cylinder contribution test
P0275 Cylinder 5 Injector Circuit Contribution/Balance Fault

And you thought your truck had problems =0))

My laptop and wireless card are at the truck and i can probably share the screen with anyone who wants to take a look. I can call long distance to conference. I'm thinking I found my dead injector though and I'm wondering how many of these codes are problems and how many are symptoms. Thanx in advance
Chad

The ones to really narrow in on are the Injector Circuit fault and both of the ICP faults. Looks like you may have a bad ICP sensor or a faulty IPR, which is bleeding off oil pressure resulting in a low ICP reading. This would cause your truck to run rough.

The injector circuit fault can be a bad wiring harness (most common), bad IDM, or a bad injector itself. Run an injector buzz test and see if all 8 injectors are buzzing. When it starts, you will hear all 8 buzz at the same time (and your tach will shoot up), then you will count 8 separate buzz sounds. If you count less than 8, one of them isn't working.

Well I am going to be optimistic for once and say only two codes. 470 is probably the Exhaust Backpressure sensor and feed tube clogged. They can be cleaned out and usually will fix that issue. the other is 275, A CCT or Continuous will return codes if rotational % is > 5%. Since you now have AE warm the truck up and in Live Data look at Cylinder Rotational Change % for each cylinder and post the results.

As for "smoking horrid running beast" if it is massive black smoke I would think injector mechanical issue but if it is mostly the horrid running part and the rotational change % is elevated for more than 1 cylinder on that side (1,3,5,7) check the Under Valve Cover Harnesses first

the 2141 i'll have to research a bit

Fully charge your batteries first as they can kill your alternator and low system voltage can cause erratic codes and a host of other issues. No sense in adding to your parts bill...yet.

I left the batteries on charger last night. i looked at some codes and thing i'll clear everything and start over again today since there are several that seem they may be erratic and related to low volt. "smoking horrid running beast" comes from an oil looking smoke out the tail pipe that will burn your eyes with a fuel smell and is of course running rough, especially cold. tried another contrib test last night (playing with new toy), and got #5,#7 fault until the vehicle warmed up, then just #5 fault. is it possible to have such a bad fault on the injector, that it is bleeding pressure off the HPO rail? going to try injector buzz test today, didn't seem to want to fire off yesterday (maybe i'm just too impatient). I should hear these things through the valve covers yeah? gotta help the misses a little bit with her kitchen painting project b4 i run off and work on the truck, stay tuned.

btw, i should probably refresh everyone's memory, right bank on engine is 100*F colder than left at exhaust ports on manifold. I just got back from an engagement, and i'm gonna go setup the laptop. I'll post from the truck any codes.

On the live data tab select from the dropdown list its either "Cylinder Rotational Velocity Change & #X" or "Rotational Velocity Change % Cylinder X".

If no shorts in the ICP circuit I would say bad sensor, biased ICP sensors will make a truck run like doodoo. With the Manifold temps I would look under the VC and hope for a bad harness but expect and injector.

don't have that option, is it something missing in 99 computer. i know they made some changes in 2000. i connect using the enhanced powertrain option. i have the ford option on ae but can't find the rotational vel options on any of the live view stuff. running 4.4.1 version of there software on xp pro loaded laptop. just did an injector buzz test and #5 sounds like crap. so think that will be next purchase. any chance the injector is causing problems with icp. i did some logging. icp is around 450psi at idle of 650-700rpm range. sounds kinda low. duty cycle at idle is like 6-7% range. if you have ae i can send you the data logging files and the option to remote control the laptop with scanner and/or truck running is still open. think i should purchase injector then worry about icp, or check out both at once? thanx

Try connecting as a 98 truck if you have the early 99.

ICP does sound a tad low normally on a warm engine I see 480-520 at idle

I would remove the VC and inspect the harness before I bought and injector the BUZZ is testing the electircal side of the system.

i hear the injector buzz but it is very weak. i'm pretty sure contacts are good but vc will get removed one way or the other so i'll double check. will try the 98 trick and post results. also what should i check for the icp. icp sensor, ipr? would my manual have the test protocols?
Thanx

Do what Alan suggested. Remove VC and check wiring. Kwikk found one schaffing against a pushrod or something. Besides, VC gaskets are completely reusable unless they are old or trashed. Good luck.

Surprised Alan didn't jump on that remote computer control option. I would be lost.

i'll yank the vc and visually check the wires, along with an ohmmeter. i guess the consensus is to go ahead and check the icp code? it doesn't show up continuous but will show up on koer. only it and #5 fault show on any powertrain test now that i cleared the dtc's. it's gotten dark and i'm not gonna do anything tonight expect go upgrade my main desktop. maybe check it tommorrow. anyone have a lead on vc wire harness. i know it's talked about on here all the time. local IH shop? or online? thanks for the help.
