Just wondering if you could put in a larger blower motor like say off of a F350 or something to make your AC blow harder. Have a 88 Bronco xlt and the AC just doesnt blow hard at all anymore and it really sucks. I live in Phx AZ so i need a good working AC thanks a lot.
One suggestion before you buy anything pull the fan motor out and check the cool-box for leaves and the like you might have some blockage that is keeping the air from blowing hard you might use a shop vac to really clean it out. Hope this helps and Good Luck,

When your talking about the fan motor, your talking about the blower motor up by the passeger side firewall right? Just wanna be sure its the same motor you guys are talking about. thanks
amen to the leaves suggestion.
another "look-out" is the diverter door partially open/closed.
pencils and other junk fall down the defrost vent into the air box.
my experience showed me that the blower moter either works or it don't. a new one is likely not going to help.
but if you really need to hot rod the motor, try the head light hop-up routine. if you're not hip, you basically run a direct wire to the motor of a more appropriate guage. the idea is to decreas voltage drop, so get the volt meter out first before you cut wires, or worse yet, add a separate switch. Just an idea I've been thinking about, but have not executed (yet). Dallas, TX 104F. I know the dessert is hot, but having experience both places, I feel for you Houston. That's why I moved.
Thanks guys, been looking around town today and calling the ford dealer seeing if a bigger motor will fit in there or not so far havent had any luck. But my friend has a 97 Expedtion which he wrecked last year and now is sitting in his garage. Since it has rear air it has to blow pretty hard so i'm thinking about doing some mods and seeing if i could get that too work, if not screw it i'll buy a new stock one thanks a lot though guys been a lot of help.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Jul-02 AT 09:09 AM (EST)]Well since my tranny is Blown right now anyway i had time this morning "5:00am" to pull apart the blower box. Good god there was all sorts of leaves, dirt, bugs, and other crap. I cleaned out the whole box and the little AC condensor too. Just by turning on just the blower inside the cockpit was a huge difference. Sounded like it was working right like it was when my dad bought the truck new. I also took some electrode cleaner and some old paint brushes and cleaned the blower motor it self had a lot of gunk and was a little hard too turn. So I cleaned it and re lubed it with some grease made for electric motors. I would highly suguest doing this to your truck if your AC perfomance is down it made a world of difference for me. To bad i cant drive my truck though since you know the tranny is "gone". Told my dad what I did so later today I get to do it on his 82 corvette see if that helps out the air flow. Well thanks again guys you have saved me cash!! beers are on me lol! Oh maybe later i'll try sticking in a bigger blower motor once the tranny is fixed i'll keep you posted.
I feel your pain on the tranny. Just bought a new AOD for my 90 Bronco about 7 months ago. Mine just went...no symptoms of any kind, just out like a light. I hate tranny shops, too. I found a good dude this time over the internet, though.
During the winter, I got a new heater core and put it in. I noticed that the fresh air mix door was half corroded away. Anyone try fixing this? I have to decide whether or not to go to the salvage yard and find one. Also, how much of a PITA is it to change?
