awesome deal, paid 11000 for my '97 w/200k on it two years ago. gotta love the stick shift, wish mine was. i am passively searching for a new truck. when i bought mine, it was the only vehicle in the family. so, for the wife, had to be automatic. that was my compromise for being able to buy an f250 when we had nothing else. i am looking for a '94 to '97 psd 4x4, manual tranny. found a good looking '96 localy but it's only a reg. cab. i have gotten spoiled with my crew and dont know if I can give it up. don't have any mods to part with and the wife now has a car... so....
rust proofing-my '97 has spent it's entire 267,000 mile life in ohio and the undercoating is just this season starting to peel off and the body rust started last season.

Here in the Southwest, you dont have to worry at all about rust. It is the sun that tears things up here. Faded paint is the norm after about five years unless you really keep up with the wash and wax routine.
found one in my local paper a while back, had 210xxx miles, and the guy was asking 5 grand for it. I got there just as it was being paid for. Had a beat up tailgate, interior was good, and a bad front fender, but WELL worth the money. I lost out. Glad to see that someone was quick enough to get one deal..LOL
I've had to for a day now and it runs great. Well, I DID have to replace a fuse, a little bulb, and use a velcro strip to secure the ashtray (which apparently was never used in the truck). Oh, and the shifter **** was completely stripped out and loose. I ordered a rock-**** to replace it.
I know the first "mod" though- the original radio has to go!

Guys,
I have the exact opposite problem of you guys here LOL... I have a 95 PSD that I special ordered in 94... Its the best truck I have ever had too. Trust me I have had many trucks over the years and most of them I wanted to buy a new one in less than two years LOL...
I find myself in the position of toying with the idea of a new truck and the 95 I have is still running better than ever. I never have a problem with this beast. The stuff I have done to the truck has only made her better. I drive her five days a week on a route that is 400-600 miles a day and she has never let me down.
I just don't know if I want to take the chance on a new truck being even half what this one has been or not. I know there are good ones as there is the bad ones we all read about LOL... I like the idea of a new truck and with the miles I drive now would be nice to sit behind the windshield and smell the new stuff and all, I just don't know if I will get the same or close reliability that this great white elephant of mine has been and continues to be day in and day out...
So I sit and ponder about the idea of a new truck quite a few miles ever day as I drive here lately LOL... The new trucks are more than twice the price of what I paid for this truck too LOL... That is a concern as well
Maybe I should just buy me the King Ranch bucket seats for the front and just add a new set of 10 ply tires and roll on a few more miles

Man...I attacked the radio swap out project today. It was a MOTHER!
The speakers went relatively easy- I only messed up one pop-out and snapped one little fastener. I had to drill extra holes in the door to get the speakers in but the rear speakers were easy. The only hard part about the speakers is trying to figure out if you have the polarity correct.
Now, the MOTHER part was getting the old head unit out- what a PITA! One side (left side) would dis-engage with my home made radio extraction tool but the other side wouldn't budge. I have to admit that as I tugged and pulled and skinned my knuckles with my fingers jammed in the ancient cassette slot the thought did cross my mind- "I guess I really don't need this old head unit...maybe I should go medieval on it and just destroy it to get it out....."; has that thought ever crossed your mind while working on something? But, a calmer more rational state of mind won out and I resisted.
The trick was to have not a U shaped piece of hanger wire but two separate pieces. That way they could work independent of each other and release their respective latches. Once I tried two separate pieces of wire the right side finally gave and radio just slipped right out! Too bad I was out of light and had to call it a night. I'll hit it again in the morning.

I am tickled at the thought of a truck out of Missouri being called a "southern truck"
You guys looking for low mileage OBS trucks need to check out the RVer's websites. I know of 4 guys who found OBS trucks with less that 100k, no mods, and mint condition. They seem to be price at book value and not market. Seem the retire folks use the truck to pull their 5th wheel south in the winter and north (past Mo.) in the summer. I thought it was a neat place to look for a truck.
Like one of the other posters, I bought my 96 CC F350 new and it has 279k on it now. It too has been the very best truck I have ever owned. Do you guys remember when desiel was way cheaper than gas and a gas PU got like 10 mpg empty with a stiff tail wind.
That's all changed and if I were looking at a new truck today it would be a gasser. The truck is cheaper, the fuel is cheaper, and the PM cost is cheaper, and the mpg has got a lot closer. A guy I hunt with has a 2000 Chevy 3500 CC with a 454 and is getting 18 mpg.
Enjoy the new truck

There will be more highly efficient diesel vehicles on the road and in repsonse the fuel comapanies will increase production. This will decrease the cost of diesel relative to gas.

and in my geographical defense it was from the very southwestern corner of Missouri. Of course the first time in three years they had seen snow was when I had to fly in the state and everything was shut down! That was a fun trip!
