Hey everyone i was looking into methanol injection and was wondering if anyone had any inpput. i live in fla and do about 700 to 1000 miles of driving a week and id like to know whatever i can about it other than the basics which i already know. Does anyone have any experience?
Me too! I just read a report of the Snow Performance that was put in a Dodge Cummins and the results were just as they promised. I'm just curious how well it works to keep the EGT's down and if it's really safe with the 6L PSD in terms of the EGR cooler and headstuds/gaskets. Also, is it continuously injected or just when the motor is under load? Any help would be appreciated.
They can be adjusted to inject at certain EGT's or boost or both. I have heard good things about the snow performance. Check out www.DPS-performance.com they have a pretty nice set up with steel lines instead of the plastic lines.
Thanks NavyPowerstroker for that site. You don't know or haven't heard of anybody running that set-up, have you? It's such an amazing concept that our diesel trucks can run on a supplement of water and actually receive more power from it! I know that many cities have been utilizing this power feature to help power city buses, but I never really understood how it works and I'm still not sure that I do. But growing up on the farm, my dad sometimes mentioned that water works in the compression chamber of a diesel, but I was always confused why there was such a big deal made about there being water in the diesel because I thought that it would just burn off the same (until I learned about the effects on the injectors). Anyways, I'm still interested to hear first hand experiences from anybody who has any using any of these water/methanol injection systems.

The water is not what goes into the cylinder and "burns" off. All it does is get injected into the intake with the air. The hot air then flashes it and it evaporates long before it gets to the combustion chambers. This in turn cools the air that is being put in the cylinder. Cooler air=more power. The methanol acts similarly but actually is burned as a power adder. This is why you can run a variety of mixes between meth and water.
i have a snow kit on my turbo charged mustang...have yet to hit the dyno so i dont know if it actually works..it is tied in with the maf working with the 0-5v reference the maf sends out in conjunction with the amount of air being seen..water acts as a cooler and meth as a power adder the idea makes since but the dyno will tell me whats its doing..
