Does anyone know how or if the propane set up for a turbocharged system is different than a non trubocharged? Also how safe is it with the hot air the turbo puts out and if the propane does explode before it is in the cylinder can it mess up the turbo? Thanks for all the information ahead of time.
propane injection like on a diesel? or a propane fuel system for a gas conversion? a backfire either way with propane can be disastrous, if you have a turbocharged gas engine with the mixer routed befor the turbo (draw through) the area between the intake valves and the turbo compressor housing will be a pressurized mix of air/fuel in which a backfire will fire back a lot harder than on a n/a engine. Blow through (turbo blows through the propane mixer into the engine) will have the same thing happen from the mixer to the engine, there will just be less volume of pressurized area.
Propane suspends in the air better than atomized gasoline, which will make the burn faster if there is any ignition (ie: backfire)
Yeah i am going to put it onto my diesel but i plan on doing it homemade. I know of a guy that did it without a turbo engine. I was wondering if the same set up can be used on turbo apllications. It is a 6.9 L which is eventually going to get an ATS turbo kit after i rebuild the engine. For right now i wanted to do the propane injection and mess around with it tunning and stuff like that. Thanks for the info though if you have any websites that talk about their set up with turbo applications i would appreciate it greatly if you could tell me. Thanks
Thanks for the information I have read that article a couple of times now. My real question i guess is if i can put that set up on my truck now then later after i rebuild it and put the turbo on it can i still use that same set up or will i have to change it? (the set up exactly the way it is in the two articles)
well I get 350km on 50L of diesel @ roughly $1/L, and 300km on 50L of gasoline at roughly $1/L also. So 300km on 100L of LPG @ about $0.60/L is still ok when you take into consideration my gasser is a stock 5 speed F150 and you have a stoked and blown windsor.
How does it run?
pretty damn well. it's a stroked 351 clevo, not windsor.
I rock stock subaru WRX's in a straight line. (*******s get me on corners) and the torque on the thing does accidental wheel spins while reverse parking. so far the only 4x4 suv that can out race me is some kind of mercedes AMG 4wd. didnt get a good look at it, as it really thrashed me off the lights.
.looking into a nitrous system to see if i can get the drop on the merc AMG thingo.
..and 4.11 gears.
... and maybe a lil more boost
.... losing the spare tire, canopy, rear seat and various other junk will hlep, too >
PLEASE don't do what that gentleman did. Put a Propane cylinder in a plastic crate. Develop a leak, and the static build up from the plastic rubbing on the metal - KABOOM.
And I have seen it happen before.
Also, I would ask of you - if you want to play around with propane, be careful. That gentleman is using a BBQ cylinder (not accredited for road use - nor recommended), and BBQ fittings... again, not recommended.
There are smarter ways to do things, without the prospect of loosing yourself, your truck, and your family.
Sorry to be a wet blanket - but what I just saw there has accident waiting to happen written all over it.
At least he didn't fit the cylinder inside the cabin
