I've just never heard of changing your oil regularly more than every 3,000 miles. I could only imagine a ton of sludge on your valves resulting from that.
I think I read every 5k miles was ok, as long as you dont tow, dont do alot of city driving, etc. Short trips destroys your oil. The heating up, cooling down repeatedly will break it down.. althou synthetic lasts better
3000 miles is wasteful. That's why we have young men dying in Iraq, so we can have oil to waste. (it's not about democracy!)
Last time I looked the manufacturers are recommending 7500 miles, I usually do it every 5000 miles, but synthetic is great stuff....10,000 miles.
If you think that we are over there for Oil then you are seriously mislead, try talking to a soldier thats been there... I have.. we are over there for even stupider reasons.
Even if we were getting oil from them, trust me we burn alot more then they produce.
Damn striker I dorve over there got I think 7 or 8 mpg, and we drove it at least 100 miles a day on our sweeps.. sometimes up to 300 miles. Thats for one striker.. the brigade had at least 300... and then all the hummvs, hemmts, helicopters, tankers, flat beds, tanks, m113s, and other assorted military vehicles... trust me we burn alot of fule over there daily... lol that should be the new line.. bring the soldiers home, and free up all that oil/gas/diesel.. watched gas prices plummet :-P
Gotta love that twin turbo desel... Surpsingly it had alot of pick up and go, unfortunately the govoner limited the speed to 70mph... althou driving a 18 ton 8 wheel drive vehicle 50mph+ offroad is alot of fun... I broke alot of halfshafts thou :-P
Went thru lotsa tires too :-P
...When filling up, you have to let the pump stop on its own without adding more or not filling up completely. Anyone interested?
HEY!!! No fair to people in Oregon (and New Jersey)! We can't pump our own gas here. It's pretty annoying, except of course when it's cold and raining...which it has been here for quite a while. Then I'm pretty happy that I get to sit in my truck and stay toasty warm while someone else pumps the gas for me.
Anyway, the best I've ever gotten with my '96 (4.0, 4x4) is 20 mpg, and just one time. I was on a road trip...I forget where I was going, but I must have been going downhill with a tailwind. 18 mpg highway and 13-14 city is more typical. And I do maintain all my vehicles very well, if I do say so myself.
I've had this rig for almost nine years, and the mileage has been pretty consistent over that period of time.
supertech brand oil is bottled by quaker state, witch is also bottled with penzoil, Im freinds with the quaker state delivery driver he tells all kinds of cool stuff.
On my 92' 4x4 4.0 ohv,I get a pretty consistent 17.5 mpg with mixed driving. On my 02' 4x4 w/4.0,I get about 20 mpg with mixed driving and about 23-24 mpg on long highway trips.
