I spend a lot of time in my truck and on occasion grab a quick nap here and there. I am concerned about damaging the turbo. Does it hurt the engine to let it idle for an hour or two. I work nights and after I drop my son off at preschool, I sometimes sleep in the truck.
Lot of talk about wet stacking during a low idle. Got a High Idle set-up? Kick into high and sleep. Or, do like I do and shut the truck down. Fuel is way too expensive.
Like Bigburd said, wetstacking is what you should be worried about, and clogging the EGR valve. Prolonged idling on the 6.0L is bad. The high-idle setup should help with those issues.
If you like to idle and sleep, your'e going to need to clean the EGR often. 6.0's are infamous for this, construction trucks have this problem all the time.
Thanks so much for the help. I'll need a couple of paychecks before I make that trip to the dealer to install the high idler thing. In the meantime, I'll limit the amount time I idle...just warm ups. I may pick up a supply of the egr valves and just change them every few months. Thanks again for the help

EGR valves are not cheap.Def. do the high idle mod.See ya.
Yes the high idle is very easy to do if you have a free upfitter switch you could use that if not it will cost you the price of a switch.I got all the info here in the tech folder and used #4 in my truck. I also idle a lot and I clean my EGR valve when I change oil it still gets dirty but not as bad now. I was going to buy a spare EGR valve and swap them back and forth to make things quicker but they are expensive.
