The motor I bought I was told came out of an 84 Mustang Gt. The flywheel (which was not attached and I can not be positive was the right one) was stamped aod which I have read cannot be used with a c6. The problem lies in which flywheel to use. The block is stamped 80 in the lifter valley and has three XXX in the same valley above the push rods. There is an 80 with an X below it on the rear of the motor.there is a whole mix of parts to track the actual year down none are consistent. It is not a roller block. Which flywheel 28oz or 50oz? there are no marking on the harmonic balancer and the crank is not accessible. The motor is out now and I belive it reads DOE on the casting above the starter, should it not read D4E to be an 84 block ?Is this a 5.0 or a 302? I am hoping to put this thing in tomorrow.
Thanks
you need to look at the block again there should be a 4 digit number.....also look on the blancer there should be a number on it some where same with the flexplate / flywheel. look good sometimes there are hard to see.
if the block is an 84 I believe it will be a 50oz balance...if it's an 80 I believe it to be 28oz.......
From 1982 thru 1989, the Ford F150/350; E150/350, and U150 all use the same AOD & C5 flywheel on the 302 engine (C5 not used on Econoline). Whether this flywheel is the same as the Mustang GT or non GT, I don't know, but the flywheel reflects a car part number. There are no specs on the flywheel in the truck parts book.
E2AZ-6375-A .. Flywheel
Note: 1981 uses E0SZ-6375-A Flywheel on all 302 AOD applications. There is nothing listed for 1980.
C5?? were do you get that? AOD and C4 are the same flexplate. year will determine 28 or 50oz as stated by hemi. a C6 and e4od use the same flexplate
Where did I get that info? From the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts catalog is where. Here's the exact reference, you can go to a Ford Dealer's parts dept and look at the same info I typed. Where the hell do you think I'm getting all this info from...a crystal ball?
After spending 35 years behind Ford parts counters, I think I know how to read a parts book!

Your block number should be E0OE. I got the same part number on my 84 Mustang HO CFI engine. Ford used this block from 80-84. If your engine has a one piece rear seal it will be 50oz imbalance.
This has turned out to be a nightmare. 7 hours yesterday motor in and out three times at least, can't get the tranny to marry to the engine, it starts to go in and then stops with less than a quarter inch to go , we have tried pulling it in with bolts, clamping it,drilling out the dowel holes, dropping the tranny raising the tranny, loosening the motor mounts. I want to shoot it!!! alll I can now think of after a sleepless nite of confusion is that the flywheel i bought is wrong and it is bottoming on the tourque converter thus not allowing the marriage. Any suggestions greatly apreciated, I am starting to wear out my welcome at the shop I am borrowing.
What was the flywheel you bought? What flywheel does Ford say is correct? Take the part number from the flywheel you bought and cross it over to the Ford number. Whoever sold the flywheel can do that. Your first stop should be to the dealer to find out: How many 302 flywheels were used in the 1980-84 Mustangs.
I bought it from a wrecker there is no # . nice idea on phoning ford never thought of that. Cool to see a fellow Canuck on the site.(langley B.C.)

the auto wreckers are idiots. i had the same problem when i went to get a crownvic flexplate for my 5.8/aod swap. they just sold me a 302/aod flex which obviously is wrong.
