IAC location

Hi All,

I seen quite a few idle problems are caused by a bad or dirty IAC valve.Where is this valve located on a 94 with a 3.0 Did full tune up, new fuel filter, new PVC. No CEL on, but still idles a little rough.

I suspect your '94 3.0L is nearly the same as my '93. 3.0L

Follow the large rubber intake hose from the air filter box across the radiator to the intake manifold. Just beyond where this large hose connects to the intake manifold (above the power steering pump), you will find the IAC sitting on top of the intake manifold. It's got a wired connection. My '93 requires that you remove a black plastic heat shield that blocks the view/access to the IAC.

BTW, do NOT replace that black plastic sheild. Ford installed it to make the hood look more cranped that it already is. Remove it and you gain free access th the entire top of the engine if you want it. It also helps cool the engine a very tiny amount (you probably couldn't measure it, but still, who needs it?) To be honest, I don't know why ford put it there, but it serves no function to my knowledge. It is probably cosmetic.

The main reason for the shield as explained to me by the manufacturer was the prevention of FOD=Foreign Object Damage from getting into the throttle linkage which if it happened could cause an issue with a stuck throttle. Most V-8 or V-6 engines that sit further back into the engine bay never had anything like this, but only advised one to pursue regular maintenance and to lubricate the moving parts when required. Personally I do agree about the plastic not being needed for which I have removed mine because it was broken in the crash it had been in before I rebuilt the van.---Boz
