Theres a 06 Ford truck at a dealership that they apparently bought thru a Ford Auction.

My first thoughts are BuyBack, what do ya think.

CarFax at a minimum to find it's history, but the dealership should be upfront about the truck. If they can't or won't answer questions about it I'd shy away.

Run a Carfax report. It might be a buy back. But...

...It also could be an executive truck...a truck driven by a Ford official. When these trucks (and cars) reach a certain mileage, they are auctioned off. 100's are sold off yearly.

It also could be a Red Carpet Lease return, or a rental truck.

More importantly, get the VIN and go to your local dealer to get the OASIS report that documents any work a Ford dealer has preformed. Being a '06 I would think that any work would be mostly warranty related. If the dealer won't provide the OASIS we have some folks around here that can get it for you.

Good luck.

Hey thanks for the responses.

I checked the free version of carfax and it shows that there were 4 records found.
When over at NADA checking what it was worth I clicked on a link to autocheck and they come up with 6 records found.
I know that I can buy the actual report, but im wondering now which one would be more accurate.

Not sure if it was a leased vehicle as it has higher than normal mileage for a 06, almost 20,000 per year.
(know that the 07 run was a short year but wouldnt it still be considered 2 years old)

The other thing is that they are telling me that there is a $100.00 deductible, everytime any warranty work is done to it. If its under warranty why should I have to pay $100.00?

Thanks
SD

Are you sure that is what the $100.00 charge is? Normally on the remaining warranty, there's no charge for warranty work. But, in order to transfer the balance of the factory 3/36 warranty over to you, there is a nominal charge...$100.00.

FYI: Ford and GM charge a one time $100.00 fee to transfer the balance of the existing warranty to you.

--no thats incorrect, the 3/36 standard-5/100 on diesel engine-go with the vehicle, there is a charge though if it has an esp warranty, and you need a letter from the previous owner that it is ok to transfer----whats the vin # on this unit?

That may be, but there's no mention of a diesel engine, all the fellow is asking is why is there a $100.00 charge. My response pertains to gas engines, which are more common than diesels. If the OP had mentioned a diesel engine, I wouldn't have responded, as I have no idea what Fords policy is on diesels.

My answer is that this is what dealers charge the subsequent owner to transfer the original remaining 3/36 warranty to him. If there is an extended warranty also, the dealer may or may not charge any additional fees to transfer that warranty also. Some extended warranty plans may ask for a deduction of $100.00 per repair visit..it depends on the type of extended warranty.

This is how it was...at least from the 1960's thru 1997. GM still charges a flat $100 fee to transfer any and all remaining warranties to new customers on used cars/trucks.

-buzz is correct--the original factory warranty--gasers or diesel goes with the vehicle,no transfer fees

While that may be true...today, it wasn't once. And how would the average person know that? Dealers aren't known for being generous, it's all about $$$.

I can hear it now..."Transfer the warranty? Sure we will be glad to, there's a slight charge, tho."

yeah its a diesel truck, No extended warranty just the factory warranty.
I asked twice about the deductible, there was no mention of a transfer fee only said it was paid when you had any work done to it, I believe he said per incident.

For example, it leads me to think, that if the truck had a problem with a oil leak, you would pay the deductible once, even though you had to take it back 4 times to get it resolved? However if you have another problem then its another $100.00.?

well---that would be dealer to dealer, the "engine" does have a 5/100 warranty with a $100.00 deductible, if you have repeat repairs, usually- i dunno by what i read, the dealer will waive the deductible within a reasonable period of time. but again by what i read--the shark infested dealer will just try and eat you out
of house or home?--oh by the way--all ford parts carry a minimal 12/12 warranty with no deductible-but thats a different issue

Like number dummy said, that's not always the case. It might be on SDs though. I bought a used 97 Expedition and had to pay $100 to Ford to transfer the warranty.

I know about the deductible and agree strongly with you!!!!!! I have had to get my Turbo replaced at least 4 times and every time it has been replaced, I had to pay a $100.00 deductible. Doesn't make much sence to me either!
