Like number dummy said, that's not always the case. It might be on SDs though. I bought a used 97 Expedition and had to pay $100 to Ford to transfer the warranty.
SGT. did the vehicle have an extended warranty? because since 1988 there was never a transfer fee for the base factory warranty from ford
Found a reallt great deal at a dealership when i was looking. the truck was in GREAT shape. No dings, dents, bumps, low-low miles, perfect interior, still had the new truck smell...now, I hate used car salesman, heck salesman in general, but this guy was right up front with me. Said it was a buy back and that it still had all of the warranty. Had a surging issue, they replaced everything and the customer still wasnt satisfied, so they bought it back. I drove it and it drove just as good as it looked. I was set to buy, but wanted to see the paperwork on why it was bought back and what they did to remedy the problem. Aftwer waiting for an hour why they "searched" for the paperwork, telling me they couldnt find it, I decided to walk out of the deal. i would have bought it if i could see the proof of what was actually wrong. I dont think they are bad deals personally, especially if Ford still stands behind them enough to resell them. the truck drove great, still had warranty, if they repair it, whats the big deal other than resale?

So, they can tell whether or not it was a buy back. The trick is extracting the information from the dealer. Sales person was willing to dig up the info but said it would take some time.
Just want to cover my bases as much as possible, and the $100.00 thing I guess bothers me because if its a buyback then I dont really want to be nickled and dimed to death.
It seems however that I read here in the past somewhere that ford dropped the deductible. But maybe thats only on New purchases and not used.
At this particular Ford dealership, they had it "marked" in the inventory number that it was a buy back. It was coded, so to speak. He knew as soon as he read the number, but he probably already knew. They know and he was willing to tell me upfront which made me more comfortable. Also the fact that it did not surge anymore, drove like a brand new truck and it still had warranty were big pluses for me. Resale is going to hurt you though, i would assume.
oh and that is not just for sd's there has never been a transfer fee for ANY ford model since 1988
Ford policy? Since when do dealers adhere to policy when they can make a buck? Dealers have been screwing Ford for years by writing up phony warranty claims, so who's to stop them from skinning a customer out of a few bucks?
And again I say.."how would a customer know about a transfer fee/no transfer fee?"
People walking into dealerships are consider "fair game."
What's the policy in your area regarding Document (Doc) Fees? In CA, there is none, and the dealers lie through their teeth when asked to explain what a Doc Fee is. Prices range from $100.00 to one case where a kid paid $1800.00!
Doc Fee: What the dealer charges you, the customer to write up the paperwork.

What a friggin lie that is..take some time to look up paperwork? Total Caca del Toro...it's right in front of him..everything today in on computers...what a bunch of scheiss!
Type in the vehicle inventory number...up pops the info. Even a computer putz like myself could do it in less than 30 seconds.
Someone told me that, I'd leave in a hurry...

Hmpf... Guess I got screwed and they didn't even have the courtesy to give me smooch. Guess I won't be going back to the Ford Dealer in Salisbury, Mass. They had all kinds of official Ford warranty paperwork too. It was an extended warranty, but it was a Ford ESP.

Would another dealer be able to bring up this (possible buyback) information from the vin#?
Buy the way I stopped at a different dealers lot tonight to see if they had anything worth while and they had a 05 used diesel on the lot and in the window sticker it said "warranty- balance of factory/ Manufacturers deductible may apply"
