Well, the Computer would need to be different to calculate the difference. The fuel injectors need different seals for the added alcohol content. Guessing the Fuel pump might be different as well. Way not worth it to convert. You pay more for fuel using E85. Read into it more before even considering it.
E85 is nice, it looks cheap, and gives you that happy tree hugger wam feeling, but in all reality, it's crap.
keep your truck as it is or trade for another one that is FFV. you will spend more time/money/effort in converting your vehicle for no actual payoff. the "savings" you'll see in the cost of E85 will be offset by the more frequent trips to refill the tanks. E-85 will on average get less than 300 miles per tank. Whereas regular 87 octane will get 400+ miles per tank.
Yeah, I don't think E85 will be useful until we have some type of oil crisis. Even then it still contains some oil and might be too expensive. I will just buy a horse.
I have some first hand experience with E85 and mileage. We've got a 2006 F150 FFV here. On gas, it gets 15mpg. On E85, it gets 13mpg. Both those go up or down a bit depending on usage, but under normal use that's the average. Considering the price difference here, and that it was a no cost option, we come out ahead. Crap? Hardly.
Well, the way I figure is that if eventually E85 can only replace as much as 10% of gas consumption in the US, the gas prices will have to go WAY down. Supply and demand and all that....
According to the EPA, it will cost me $20 more A YEAR to operate on E85...so yeah, if available, I'll use it. But right now, in NY it's not available.

So if I have a green FFV F150, does that make me more of a tree hugger?
of course it does. just be sure to wear recycled tire sandals and boycott deodorant.
anyways, to each his own, but I personally won't be running E85 unless the price is < $0.50 than 87 octane. I know some states are that way, but the majority aren't.

I get under 300 miles per tank (27 gallon) with 87octane. I am not a hard driver and drive mostly highway.
