They must have fixed that somewhere between 99 and 02 it looks like. It's so nice being able to lock the truck with it running while you run in somewhere real quick. I stop at the gas station across the street from my apartment most mornings and pick up a pint of milk and a breakfast burrito and let my truck run while I'm inside. Helps get it up to temp before I get to work cause it's only a mile drive. Half the time I have to drive past work and go around the block to get it to temp Oh well, eventually I plan on buying a house outside town so then I won't have to worry about that.
i found out the hardway back in the fall that my 99sd locked out when running. I was on my way home from school an pulled off to use the bathroom at a rest stop, but had just pulled a long grade an egt's were high so i was gona let it idle an go in. took my key fob off an locked the doors an went inside, as im standing there im thinking this is gona suck if it dont unlocl, came out an what you know dont work! so im standing on the side of the highway im the middle of nowear with my truck running an nothing but the key fob, cell an wallet are all in the locked truck so i sat there for awhile asking people if they had any coat hangers with no luck, eventually got a screwdriver an was gona try the old pop the rear sliding window trick....nope POP! goes the glass everywhere, but i was in. spair keys were 2hrs away with no way to get ahold of anyone. $280 later at the dealer for a whole new rear window, i new keep a spair under the truck.
I have a 2005 Lariat SD It has a factory key pad on the drivers door & you can not lock the door with the engine running as soon as you close the door the door will unlock.the only way you can lock the doors with the engine running is to use a special code on the key pad it is in my owners manual. The service manager came out to my truck & showed me how. So there is no way to lock your self out of my truck accidentally with the engine running.
KPHN it isn't really a special code. You press the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons at the same time, it works for all of the keypads including the stick on ones. And yes they have made it so you can't accidently lock yourself out while it's running on the newer models.
And for those of you thinking about unhooking/cutting the wire for the key in ignition chime, the doors will still unlock while the vehicle is running. I was kind of suprised it still did that when I first unhooked the chime.
well heres what i do...they make these little key boxes that a magnetic...get a key copied and find a place on your truck thats unsuspecting..ive had that thing there for years ...still there...although i do have this keypad on my door for unfortunate incidents!..wonder why they made those things so convienant...sometimes when i go ride my quad i lock my keys in my truck on purpose, just so i dont loose them when im hitting jumps or something...hah lol
Yep I lock my keys in the truck all the time now that I have the keypad. 4-wheeling, hunting, playing softball, and all that so I don't have to worry about losing them somewhere.
I just had a RAVELCO system installed on all my vehicles. From thier web site it looks like a good system. Never had a vehicle stolen with thier system on it. I watched them install it. All black wires that disable starter, injectors and what ever.
i never really cared much about a keypad on the door, but now i'm glad i have one. i lock my truck all the time when i have to run into a store for a minute. like someone else said, just hit the last two button of the keypad. and they lock. put your code in one opens, hit 3-4 and they all open.
i love that thing!
I got locked out of my truck about two weeks ago. I was leaving work and I threw my keys on the seat then threw my dog in the truck. I started talking to a buddy in the parking lot. After I finished bull****ing I go to leave discovering I am locked out of my truck. I curse myself for not programming my keypad. After trying to coax the dog to hit the unlock button for a while I realize my dog isn't as smart as I wish she was. I resort to getting a ride home to get my spare key. The next day I programmed my key pad. I wish I was as smart as my dog thinks I am.
didn't your truck come with a little credit card with the keypad code on it? i keep mine in my wallet but i have it memorized now to get in. i never had to program that pad on the door. mabye the older models you needed to?
