I figure a new thread was in order since I figured out the problem. It seems as if the pressure switch on my AC system (89 bronco, 5.0L) is bad. I can jump the plug and the compressor will cycle and the AC will blow cold in the cab, so I figure I have a good charge, and just that the switch is bad. Can I unscrew that switch from the drier without having to remove all the refrigerant? Or is it isolated somehow from the system? If so, what am I looking at as far as cost to have the system evacuated of the R12, switch replaced, then having the R12 replaced? Thanks for the help.
Well I tried to remove it and got a hissing noise along with some liquid coming out of there. Needless to say I quickly closed it back up. I guess that valve is bad or I didnt do something right. I put a wrench on the nylon part of the switch that appears designed to take a wrench (dont know a better way to describe that), the part closest to the drier canister. Thoughts??
So if the valve continues to leak after I remove the switch, would I be OK if I just took the old one off and put the new one on real quick to stop the leaking? I doubt the small amount I'd lose would have a catastrophic effect. Lastly, is that valve replacable so the next time I have my system discharged I can fix its leak? Thanks for all the help.
