Why do people buy these trucks and then complain about gas milage? have you seen how much they weigh? how many liters the eng is? They way I see it as long as its not blowing out black smoke or leaking/smelling of fuel I dont worry. Its time for a reality check poeple.
Noboby was complaining, I was just asking for some advice. And yes that was a great joke about putting the gas in with the diesel(not). For those who you who gave informative responses, thank you, everyone else should keep to themself if they just want to crack jokes and make newbies look like idiots. Im no senior user but I have enough common courtesy to know that.

Hey Ryan
I wanst saying you were complaining about your milage, more or less I was complaining, but anyways I hope you got a few responses that helped you with the Fuelmilage ?'s I hope no one offended you, I think they were all just trying to loosen the mood a little. And some are jerks.
Ryan, first off what exact truck do you have. CrewCab, extended, single??? Is it 4x4, lifted?? What size tires do you have?
There are so many things (especially the driver) that contribute to mpgs. I get really good mpg (18 average mix of city-highway-fields) but I drive like grandpa and have a 2wd.
I had a 66 Mustang and tweaked for mileage and power. Did the same with every motorcycle I've owned. Now I do it in my near-8000-pound truck. I like the idea of getting the most out of everything I have, including the dollars I bust my butt to earn. Some people are just like that. Some could give a crap one way or the other.
One of the best things I've found (other than not stomping on the fun pedal!!) is to minimize my stop & go. Find the patterns to the traffic lights in your area and keep a steady throttle so that you can roll through sequential green lights. Unfortunately, if you live in Northern Colorado, the engineers that set the timing for such things are, at best, blithering idiots. Use your cruise control as much as possible, and also, try and take routes out of the wind. The difference between a windy/blustery route and one protected from the wind will be several MPG.
Best of luck on getting the most from your truck!! I know I will!

Driver will definitely affect MPGs but even if nothing else changed but you came here to Colorado, your MPGs would suffer. Thinner air = less power, which leads to using more pedal for the same go. Add in the hills & wind, and your MPG average just got poleaxed.
I drove from CO to MD for Christmas and at 78MPH steady I got 17+ MPG when I was back East. Can't touch that here in the hills. Just some food for thought.
Return truck as close to stock as possible. Except remove muffler. No programmers or chips. They add more fuel, not less!!
as noted any many other posts, Jodys Dp tuner 40 tow, on average not towing gets about 4 mpg over stock. (summer fuel) but thats on a dp tuner, not always does more fuel mean less economy, when your using good programming with supporting mods. the key is to stay off the throttle under 2K rpms.
Ryan, 11 seems really low for that setup. Are you a hotrodder? I have told many friends to keep it under 2k rpm to improve mpg, but most had the problem of keeping it under 2k from take off. The would floor it from a take off and then keep it under 2k, which is actually worse.
Are your reading from the lie-o-meter or hand calc?
I dont even have a lie o meter, that is a hand calculation. The truck was sitting for awhile before I bought it..It only had 4000 miles put on in the last 9 months.
Would that have anything to do with it? I changed the oil/filter and got a new K&N air filter.
OH BOY, now you've done it... you said K&N... i run K&Ns on motorcycles, but people have done oil analysis and the K&N for our trucks let through too much dirt - you're much better off with the "Kwik filter" - you can get a round paper filter from fleetfilter.com (part# 46637) for ~$25 each - it's a much better solution overall

I only put about 7K a year on mine, so I don't think that is an issue. I get about 11-12 mpg towing my 9.5K travel trailer, so I say something is not right with yours. A boost leak from loose intercooler boots will eat-up your mpg. You could always take her by the stealership and have them scan it for codes.
