I did a search and found nothing. Only topics discussing rough idle or erratic/low idle.
My truck ('97 4.6L auto. 97K miles, all stock) just started this yesterday. Normal idle RPM is about 750 whether in gear or not. Now, it's idling at about 1050 in neutral or park and around 975-1000 in gear. I noticed sitting at a red light, when I had to use more brake pressure than normal to keep the truck from rolling. Thats when I looked at the tach and discovered that it was idling around 1K.
My mechanic friend seems to think it's the TPS...
Could I go around and unplug sensors one by one to see what it does until I find one that makes it return to normal Idle speed? It worked on my friends Dodge (wouldnt idle) and turned out to be his MAP sensor..
Anyways...what do you guys think it could be? Im not the best when it comes to all these sensors and electronics.
If I would need to replace it, how much would they be from the dealer? Anyone had to buy one?
A good dealer will only charge you around $65 for it. List is nearly $100. It's not the TPS,it's either the IAC valve or possibly a vacuum leak allowing more air in around the TB.

I have heard of PCV tubing connecting to the back of the throttlebody elbow tends to crack causing a vacuum leak. It will be right next to the IAC so an easy one to check.
Well...thanks for the tips! I've got another major problem (for the wallet) that started today. I think the alternator is dead. Lost all power on the way home from work tonight....no gauges, could barely see the headlights/gauge cluster lights, and my stereo went dead...
