Smile 2005 PSD Excursion Spring Codes

Hello all. I have been reading all the posts on the V and B code sping change but I have not been able to determine what the stock spring codes are for my Excursion. We tow a 26 foot travel trailer and the Excursion still does not handle as good as my 2002 F150 crew cab. Does anyone out there know where I can get the current spring codes for my truck plus a chart showing what the spring rates are for all the other springs. I want to change the springs but I want to do my homework first. Looking at the door sticker it says "DD GG" for spring codes but no one knows what that really means. Thank you.

The codes seemed to have changed in 05 but I don't know HOW they changed. It could just be different letters. I do think the rear springs got upped a bit but am not 100% sure of the actual rating.

Years ago I posted a "Spring Code" chart here that showed everything you are asking about. I'll search and then edit this post for you.

Now...explain "the Excursion still does not handle as good as my 2002 F150 crew cab".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ON EDIT:
>>>The following information was created by Bruce1954 from the Ford-diesel.com site. He has gone to a lot of trouble getting this information to fellow Excursion owners. I took the liberty (hope you don't mind Bruce) to post it here. It was buried in another post. I got tired of trying to find it, so I made it, it's own topic.
Questions should be directed to him as well as any and all credit!!
I have gotten several requests for more info on front spring changes and I just recieved some basic data on an X with the V-10 and W springs from rogera (thanks Roger)that confirmed that there is more arch in the W and X codes than in the S thru V code springs. The information below can be used as a guide it based on calculations and estimates using Ford public data and experience from a few vehicles that I have data on. Also I have received a few questions that require an explanation type answer so I will post those separatley under this thread as well. Please use the information below as an estimate only. I do not want anyone angry with me because they did not get the expected results. Again the Excel spread sheet that produces this data and that you can put your real truck weights and spring rates into is available for the asking. If anyone knows were I could post it let me know and I will do it. Also if anyone has done one of the below upgrades and got different results please let me know ASAP.
Again these are estimates and for Excursions only if you want them more accurate then weigh your truck get my Excel file and the work with real data.
So with that said here it is:
Front axle weights used are 4080, & D code springs for the PSD and 3680, & C code springs for the V-10
Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate----Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD
---------------------------------/spring---to Max Cap ----height --- height
--------------------------------------------------------- change --- change
Exc V8 --------- B ----- 4100 ----- 330 ----- 5.02 -------- -0.25 ---- -0.66
Exc V10 -------- C ----- 4300 ----- 350 ----- 5.01 --------- 0.00 ---- -0.37
Exc PSD -------- D ----- 4700 ----- 380 ----- 5.14 -------- +0.33 ---- 0.00
F250/350 All springs are computer selected
Also the use of a rear sway bar and what size it is package dependant
SD-250/350 ------ S ---- 4000 ----- 370 ------ 4.34 ---- +1.22 --- +0.88
I have never seen one done for the rears like the one for the fronts.
Guess most folks will use blocks or an add-a-leaf to increase ride height. B codes seem to be the prevailing choice for rear springs.
B codes. Is that what is on the standard F250 with a 7.3 diesel? I am getting a set of F250 springs so can I assume the front are V codes and the rear are B codes?
You cannot assume the fronts of V's unless the truck you're getting them from had the snowplow prep package. Assuming B's for the rear is "safe".
Well I would just like to thank everyone for the information. I ordered new V codes for the front and B codes for the rear today. I will be installing them on my PSD 2005 Excursion soon. I also ordered the 4 inch blocks for the rear. I will take before and after photos of the installation. This should work great with the Rancho RSX shocks I installed a couple of weeks ago. I am hope this solves all the towing problems the I have had. I will keep everyone posted to let you know how it goes. Thanks.
I ordered them from a Ford dealership in town. They gave me 20% off. I payed $660.00 for all four springs and the 2 4 inch blocks in the rear. I did not order U bolts for the back yet. Not sure which ones I need and how long they need to be.
My mistake! I meant to say F codes NOT B codes.
I found the part numbers for all the springs & U-bolts. Check out this thread.
