All the sudden the OD light comes on after a few miles n the truck is shifting hard. Anyone else get this problem? In the search saw speed sensor speedo issue but not this one. Anyone? Its a 97 exp 5.4 T load eddie baur has 2wd awd 4hi 4lo. VSS? TPS? dunno.

i have the same problem on my 98 it did not happen till a year after i replaced the tranny. the master mech at my job says it is a common problem with this truck and to get it to the tranny shop soon.will have to ask him again exatly what he said it was..

 

A few questions:
How many miles on it
Were you towing when it happened
Have you had the codes checked
Did you check the fluid level
Does it smell burnt
When did you service it last

 

There are several dozen things that could cause this symptom.

You need to start by having the codes pulled. Many el-cheapo scan tools cannot pull the manufacturer-specific codes so you will need to find someone to properly pull the codes.

A local independent transmission shop would be your best bet. It probably won't be free, but you should get a preliminary idea of what is wrong.

Until you do this, it is a waste of time to speculate on what might be wrong.
