Feedback for aftermarket headers,please!

Hi everybody! I have a 74 F250 2WD with a 390. I am looking to install (or have installed) some aftermarket ceramic coated headers. I am looking for advice on what headers you all might run, problems I might run into when installing myself, or average costs of having them installed professionally. This is my next major spring project, and I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance!

Whatever brand you choose, make sure they have at least a 1/4" thick flange!!! If it is less, you will curse the day you ever saw them.

Welcome to the site

May I suggest having a look in the FTE special exhaust forum for some feedback ?

I would recomend spending the extra $$$$ and getting the ceramic coated headers, they cost more up front but they won't rust out as fast, or look all crummy under the hood with rust and peeling paint. Also, headers do add some heat under the hood, there are special wraps available to insulate them, might want to take a look at those, too.

Be sure you have a brand new starter in place BEFORE you mount the passenger side header. On my '76 F-150 4x4 I have to totally unbolt the header and passenger side motor mount, and jack up the motor. I chose the black hooker headers. They leaked like crazy untill I went and bought a fist full of allen head header bolts and replaced the gaskets with standard manifold gaskets. The retorque part in the instructions is to be taken seriously. I haven't heard a peep out of them in six years now. Thats my first header success story so far!

Sanderson, and L&L make some nice headers. I've got coated, Sanderson's on my 460. They still look like new. They have 3/8' flanges, and have never leaked at the heads. I had problems with the nuts vibrating off of the collector bolts, but lock nuts (not the NYLOCK ones) cures that. Also, I got some of those Percy's "dead soft" collector gaskets, they're definately worth it. Just make sure which ever ones you get are made to fit your engine, in your truck.
