390 Headers wanted

Anyone have a set of headers available for sale. My truck is a 1966 3 on the tree. 390. I would like ceramic coated headers, but might settle for painted.
I want full length not shorties.

Thanks

You can buy em for $100 from jegs. Most people that have headers, want to keep them. Good luck. =)

Nope!! The ceramic coated headers go for between $225 to $350 for the usual brands.

390 Headers

I bought a pair of Dynomax painted headers from Jegs for $105 after they didn't have in stock the Hedmans that I originally wanted for $150. When I took them out of the box, I was dismayed by the poor quality. My first impression was burrs on the flange, which I knew I could file smooth, but then I found that the paint was only on one side.........the sides that would face the engine were totally void of paint. Now, I know that the paint would probably burn off anyway, but this was strike 2. Then I decided to do a test fit, and I couldn't get either side to fit. I knew that I could by jacking up the engine, but by now I was really questioning the integrity of these headers.
I called Jegs and explained the situation and they cooperated fully and ordered a set of Hedmans. I exchanged the Dynomax for the Hedmans, paid the $45 difference and man what a difference. The Hedmans are so much better in all ways from visual appearance to the quality of the hardware and design of the exhaust pipe joint. They also fit right up without lifting the engine or even removing the starter. I would recommend the Hedmans for anyone looking for headers. Mine is a 1966 with 352 and 3 speed trans.

You must have gotten a lemon. My Dynomax's were excellent quailty, they went in just as the instructions said. They had black paint on them, seemed to be very good quaitly, the power increase is pretty outstanding.

There is a set of headers that have the ceramic coating on ebay right now.

I bought the Headman from Jegs and they bolted right up to my 65 352 with the four speed manual.

Good luck.

Hey guys thanks for the help, I went to summit and bought the ceramic ones for 248.00 They have a five year warrantee for rust and The ones on ebay are going for way too much. No bolts, gaskets..maybe other stuff. they are up to 204.00 reserve not met OUCH plus shipping on them. Summit had a way better deal with warrantee.

Thanks alot for your help.

Good choice on going with the ceramic coated ones. You will be pleased with not only the way they look but how long they last. The set (dynomax) I put on a '73 F-100 390 I did for my neighbors son, after 1 1/2 years and 20+ thousand miles, still seal and look great. One tip. If you didn't get a set, buy and use the copper collector seals/gaskets. They seem to last forever.

Somebody is rather proud of his headers. I can't believe that the price on ebay is over $200 and still no reserve met....WOW....Good move on getting the new ones, someone should email the bidder on ebay and tell him were he can get new ones...

Even the ones that are not coated are going for a high price..

If self installation, may want to check out the off set header extensions, believe by Hedman. Used them installing exhaust system on my 65 and it worked perfect for getting around the crossmember. May not apply for your application. One thing about summit if it looks like it may work and you get it home and it does'nt as long as do not scratch/damage new item you can return w/ no hassle. Also advise caution on selecting mufflers. Purchased couple and although get complements, for this senior citizen find them too too loud.

Hhere can I find the offset extensions? Are they available through summit. I am not sure what to type in and I don't want to waste my time looking for something if I am in the wrong place.

If you go to summit racing online and enter " header extentions" it should take you to their selections. They have offsets expansion/reducers depending upon your application. Suggest install headers and 'eye ball' to determine if meets the application, if offset necessary. Probably goes with out saying if self installation, found it benefitcal to lay out new system on paper in advance. Determine muffler outlet/inlet sizes and locations, where intend to use hanger, size of exhaust pipe, etc. If intend to use clamps factor in the distance using couplers. Everything pretty much went together using clamps, used oxy/acyl at the end to weld tip in desired location.
