I checked with Dan Carpenter back in 2005 for an 8-foot bed for my '51 F2 and found that they no longer make them. Last Refuge Hot Rods will make a custom bed with all smooth sides and front for $1,295. I'm going to go ahead and try to restore my current bed before I consider shelling out that kind of dough.
Let me save you some time... You are going through the same process I went through a few months ago.. Look at my gallery, I had a long bed that was hacked off on the back.. Tried for months to find a bed to replace it, NO ONE makes long beds anymore.. Everyone that used to stopped.. You are going to have to be patient and find a parts truck with a long bed.. I cried, hoped, and prayed for months and then one day I found a 56 long bed f100 on ebay for $100, AND it was only 30 miles away!
I guess the prayer worked
Same thing happened to my '55. The P.O. cut the bed & frame to look like an F-100. I bought a donor for $750 and am thinking about making it road worthy. I saved the old bed sides(the ones that were cut) and I'm wondering how hard it would be to fab the missing length. I don't think it would be too difficult and am thinking about trying at the local schools metal shop to use a bending brake. If you have a vo-tech type school in your area, your might be able to get them to fab a bed as a project for cheap. I never tried it, but that might be a good source.
