Timing Chain Replacement...

Alright guys. Im ready to install a new timing chain any advice on the Do's and Dont's would be really good to know right now lol. Thanks for your input.-Rev

Specs are:
85' 302 HO In my 72' F-100
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Ok Here is a Shot Of The New Timing Chain In... Someone told me that the cam gear and crank gear should line-up somehow... Vertically or pionting ar each other?? Here are the pics

That's a NEW set? If it is, better send it back. That's way too much chain slack for a new set. Go get a Cloyes roller set for a late model 5.0. Less than $20 at O'Reillys

I had the same problem with a replacement timing chain set for a 92 302. The extra slack makes me wonder whether the database incorrectly references a 351 part number instead of the 302 number. I do not recall for sure which brand I had the problem with nor what brand was correct. I do believe both came from O'Reilleys.

it should not matter a 351W is the same.....

Ditto, the 302 and 351W have the same crank to cam spacing. Possibly a 351C set could fit? I don't know as I've never tried that.

All I remember is the 1st timing set was not right. As I recall the cam sprocket was different and the chain had too much slack.
