i have an intermitent problem.the truck dies and fires right back up,goes a bit and same thing.sometimes i can go all the way to work no prob.sound like a module?
could you give us a little info. on you're truck (ie...year engine model modifications ect.) but in my experience with fomoco & unilites you mus verify that you have 12 volts at you're distributor many ford systems use a ballast resistor to the points, this reduces the voltage to 9 volts to increase point life, the after market systems do not operate well at reduced voltages and will often overheat and stop operating. during start cycle the ballast resistor is by passed and full battery voltage is available to the distributor often allowing immediate start up! Acommon occurance with this system is that you will not see the problem when you have a high electrical demand (ie...headlights, blower motor running high speed wiper motor running) this triggers alternator to feild & you're system voltage goes up to 13-15 volts witch equates to 11-12 volts at the ballast resistor making the problem go away! Does any of this sound familiar? I would try to drive it with any possible electric load off, & see if the problem occurs, then restart & drive with all electrical loads turned on & seeif it will continue to run!
I have had several different configurations where this became a constant problem! the worst was a 1980 bronco with a vv carb & blue grommet eec box, big time problems, but if you poured 1/2 a cold beer on the eec box it would allways restart, maybe it was thirsty?
