I have a 1988 Ford Bronco XLT and I can not start the truck using the key. I have a trigger to start the truck now. I replaced the steering column to find out that isn't the problem (spent $200 on something I didn't need!). So if anyone can give me any pointers to what I can try, please let me know. Thanks a lot. at Bad Service Centers
It could be a few things. First off, is the truck an automatic or stick? If auto, the neutral saftey switch could either be out of adjustment, or bad. If stick, there is a starter lock-out switch on the clutch pedal, requiring you to depress the clutch in order to start the engine. If these check out it is a wiring problem. You say you are using a trigger to start the truck. I assume it's hooked up to the starter solenoid? If that's the case, and you are using the trigger to apply voltage to the small terminal on the front of the solenoid (red wire with light blue stripe), then the solenoid is ok. If that wire isn't getting power, then you have to check the saftey switches, the ignition switch itself, or the wiring in between. I hope this helps you out!
Finally!!!! It was a combo of the Starter Solenoid (which was the wrong one to begin with) and the neutral safety switch. Both were replaced and it starts beautifully! Thanks a lot!
I've got the same troubles....no trigger though, just a screwdriver!....My solenoid checks out but I cannot find the #$(&#($& neutral safety switch! Anybody point me in the right direction? Any way to test it yourself (well myself...)?

The switch in located on the drivers side of the transmission. I can send you a photo of where it is if needed. To test it, you need to test for continuity on the wires going to and from the switch (put the truck in neutral when testing). If you want that picture, send me an e-mail at brandon@tci-comp.com and I will take one and send it back.
