I put in a cat back system with a Magna Flow Muffler ( not sure of the model) and for the most part it sound good except around 2000 RPM where it droans in the cab which I really hate.
The exhaust place says its something to do with the fuel injection system????? Which I think is bull hooey!
so I am thinking I am going to pull the muffler out and put on some bottles that I used to have on my 351W (my old truck).
My question is does anyone have bottles on their 5.4??? if so do you still have that droaning from 1800 - 2200 RPM?
Hey I had a Magnaflow on my 99 and I think it droned a little until the packing burned in......its takes about 500-1000 miles or so to burn in the packing. Have you got under the truck and looked to make sure everything is connected? I dont know but I thought you could only get drone from a chamber muffler like Flowmaster, when I had my magna flow it sounded good but never droned and was pretty quiet.
However, Is the drone coming from the front of the cab or the rear? What else have you done to the exhaust, do you still have Cats? Where does your exhaust exit? Exit can make a big difference in drone, if it is right behind the cab that will be a lot of your problem.
My crewcab F250 with 5.4L and gibson has no drone. I do have some ticking from the y-pipe, though. One possible solution is to spray some heavy undercoating above the exhaust to slow down the resonance of the cab.
ext cab short box and the exhaust comes out behind the tires. I believe its 3" off the cats into the muffler which is as far back on the truck as possible and comes out as dual exhaust.
Sorry man I cant help.....I dont remember my Magnaflow SI/DO resonating at all and I had the exact same set up(except it was a '99) but I also had 12" long ecco chamber tube's in the rear and It was nice and mellow but no drone. By the way what does 5000km translate into in miles?
