I am looking to find some cheap rear bumper brackets for my fathers 66 f100 stepside. I know they are the same for the 57-72 from looking at repros at LMC. I wouldn't mind the ones from LMC but they are a bit out of our price range. We are trying to get his truck back on the road on a tight budget. Anyone that can help out would be really appreciated.
Those mounting brackets are hard to find it seems; I can only suggest your local salavage yard/ pull a part shops. Seen them go high on the web site even for used ones. There was a solid style bumper with the brackets attach back in those day's; most of them had the dealer's name / company stamp into them. Its not like the bumpers in the parts catalog; but if you find one it will mount right up easily.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info Mitch. We did have the large heavy duty bumper on it before but my father wanted the correct stepside one for his 66. I bought it for him for his birthday but I guess I didn't figure on needing different bumper brackets. Hopefully I will be able to find a set or I will have to bite the bullet and buy a set from LMC.
I do have the painted one Bill. Thanks for the part numbers...I didn't realize there was a difference.
I was going to order the brackets from lmc since that is where I got the bumper and it only shows one item number for a pair of brackets (painted) which is part number 40-3713 for the brackets and hardware. I hadn't looked at blue oval yet because I was going to stick to where I got the bumper if I couldn't find used.
Charlie; I did replace both my front & rear bumpers from lmc; I had the originial rear bumper brackets prior to purchasing the chrome reproductive bumpers. They mounted right up. I'm assuming you have a flareside truck bed; from your statement of having stated that you have a stepside?
I can't see why you can't find the brackets in your local scrap yard, As Bill stated the range is up to 1972 models as a direct bolt on.
Charlie; Great looking Slick you got there. With a truck in that condition and you stated you already purchase new bumpers, I guess I would have to fork over some more dough and get the new brackets as well. I did screen the classifieds here on FTE and didn't seem to find any brackets for sale for ya. I would just think with having an range from 57 -72 those brackets would be alittle easier to find or not at a such high repro cost.
But if you havn't got it and need it; it will always cost you.
Again sharp ride.
I have a 66 flareside. I have the rolled channel bumper. painted. I have a set of brackets for this bumper but they do not sit right on the truck. I know Number Dummy has posted this many times and i believe mine are correct. I have also read that these were dealer installed and maybe my holes were drilled incorrectly. I am attaching a copy below of my brackets.
I see that MACS sells this one, but it looks much different than the one Number Dummy says is correct.
Part #: 48-27652-1
Alt Part #: B5C-17787-UST
Anyone have any thoughts on if mine is correct? Maybe i need to weld in the holes and redrill?
I cannot seem to find any numbers on my brackets. I do have a measurement on the part that bolts to the frame. I have about 4 1/4" from the back of the bracket to the center of the second hole. If that helps any?
Is there any way of knowing if mine are for 1948/56 or 1957/72?
