I tow a 7,000# Travel Trailer in the summer with my '99 V10. I change my tranny oil every 30K like clockwork. I take it to a trusted tranny shop to have it changed as my dealership told me that they do not drop the pan or change the filter, they just run the fluid out and replace it. I like having the pan inspected for any debris before replacing the fluid. Pricewise it was about the same money, if memory serves it was about $70.
I had the first trans oil changed in my '97 prior to warranty end (thought if there was anything to find that would be the time to find it). My owners manual recommended a transmission oil and filter change at that interval. That is what I told them to do. They said they do a "super-flush" or some such nonsense....never once saying they would not drop the pan and change the filter.
When I did the second change myself I found the telltale "plastic lollypop" dipstick tube hole sealer. I also found nearly a doulbe handful of aluminum chips in the pan as well. That rip-off (1999) was the last time I went to a Ford dealer for service of any kind.
Basicly paid more for less causing me to be an extremely unhappy Ford customer.
Thanks sonny I forgot to ask my ford tech when I was there today. Incidentally I was informed that when they service the tranny it gets drained anew pan filter and then power flushed all for about $250 or so. The toilet paper like element up front is not part of that service but can be done, the tech reccomended soaking the cap on the element housing with a good penetrating oil as the alluminum likes to weld itself together & the housing costs over $100 if its broken.
You have a 5R1100. The 5 means its a 5speed auto and the 1100 means it will hold up to 1100 lb/ft of torque. Don"t know what the "R' means.
interesting. R? could it be for 5 speed with a reverse at 1100 pounds of T?
It uis actually a six speed auto that skips a lower gear when cold and a higher one when hot. Don't recall which ones.
It is actually 5R110, not 5R1100. The 5 means 5 speed, the R means rear wheel drive, and 110 means 1100 lb-ft of torque capacity after the torque converter multiplies the engine torque by 1.9:1.

Thanks. Where did you manage to find this info at?
