After waiting around for 3 days for the scrap guy to come pick up the Cougar I have, I said to heck with it and started cutting it up...back in the "old days" I'd have been done, but man, layer after layer of steel all spotted together, sure is tough on the torch.

Gonna have a pile of scarp iron soon though, come hell or high water.

I cut up a 86 F100 this year - lots of thin steel all welded and glued together. Lightweight stuff, not like the older Ford trucks.

Hard to say which is better - but that is the world we live in. Lightweight is more efficient and that counts most, with those who need heavy trucks buying the bigger ones - the F350 and F450 do about what a F150 and F250 used to.

I dearly love the cast iron V8s - but I get about 8 MPG out of them using today's gas. Better to have a light-weight one that gives you 20+ MPG. . . . . .

I think the way the layer things is for strength...used to be able to make a cut and pull it back...not no more...takes like 3 cuts of the torch to peel things.

Heck, tried to cut through the pillars with my sawlzall...wouldn't do much at all...thought the blade must have went dull, so tested it on another area on the frame and it sliced right through.

Had to stop though, kept lighting things inside on fire...guess I'll pull clean out the inside later today and start again.

Well, this thing is getting shorter and shorter and shorter

I'm now back to the rear wheel wells, but can't do anyting else today...there's no wind blowing outside....need the wind for when i start through the glue and stuff...or else I'll die of toxic posioning

FOrgot to mention no one woul come by for free and pick it up because I pulled he suspension out it...what went from 'we'll pay you for you scrap cars, in any condition" became "it'll cost you 125 for us to haul it off".

Sooo, I get 200 a ton for scrap, figure I use 100 in O/A cutting it up, will cos me 20 bucks to dump all the plastic at the yard...10 bucks in fule to hual everything here and there, leaves me about 50 bucks in my pocket for 25 hours of work.

I'm such a tightazz, I tell ya...should have paid someone to haul it off...but at least I'll clear about a 2 bucks an hour for cutting it up...
