06 6.0 intake

what cold air system do u guys recommend in an 06 with no mods, btw its a 350 fx4, it does a lot of towing and it is also a daily driver so fuel mileage and power is a plus, im looking for something under 350.

TIA
Daniel

The general consensus is that the stock Donaldson intake and filter will flow more than enough, and filter better than anything aftermarket unless you are going for huge horsepower. Warranty could also be an issue.

keep your factory intake

I would keep the factory intake for one. I think Ford is looking for any reason to void warranties on the 6.0 diesel and two I don't think the cold air intakes gain you any power or mileage. Save your money and use it to buy diesel.

Hey man I have been eyeballin the new AEM WORKHORSE intake but they dont make them for the 7.3L....but you are in luck cause they got them for the 6.0. It looks like a very good design, its got a big filter....i mean BIG! compaired to other intakes. I would check out AEM's website and see if you like what you see. Otherwise just stick with your favorite brand or stay with stock.

the truck already has 29000 miles and the reason i ask is because the stock replacement filtesr are $70+ so with a reuseable filter i figure it would pay for itself in no time

Well I like Volant, they make a good product but they dont come with install instructions and are a pain to install if you dont know what you are doing. Volant is a great intake but very spendy....in the 300 dollar range. what brand have you been considering?

Your stock Donaldson filter is the best for your application. You will only see a gain in higher RPM situation if your tuning for the most HP. The after-market filters could leave an invitation to dusting your turbo if not maintained correctly.

S&B air filter

I bought an S&B air filter, can't imagine the stock could flow as much air as the S&B unit. Apart from better gas milage EGT's should drop a little.

I got mine from http://www.rmpoutlet.com . If you are looking for product testing articles for most diesels trucks, I recommend you pickup an issue of Diesel Power magazine http://www.dieselpowermag.com .

March's cover has a wicked looking F350. I want one!!

Stay with the stock filter. You stand a good chance of "dusting" your turbo with an aftermarket filter, and it isn't covered by the warranty.

hey DanielN

Dont let these guys scare you off with this "dusting your turbo" hoopla, If you want an aftermarket intake then get it.....just be sure to compare and shop around and buy a highquality system. You get what you pay for so the more expensive the better, you also have some choices for replacement filters that fit in your factory airbox.....for example I think "Green" has a filter, sorry I cant remember the name but they make good stuff. Good luck!

If you've got 1500-2000 to blow on a turbo then go for your A/M intake. There are vendors here that will sell you a Motorcraft/Donaldson filter that WILL protect your turbo and motor where the cotton gauze filters CAN'T. And lets don't talk about rings and cylinder walls. Dusting your turbo HOOPLA???? It's well documented what happens. They don't call me the AirIntakeNazi for nothing.

The factory Donaldson filter will flow all the air your stock turbo can handle---BTDT and got the tee shirt.

As I said buy high quality, either stock replacement or an after market intake...dont go cheap. those dry element filter's like the AEM are good at filtering 99.5% they say which is good and I highly doubt that at that percent of filtering you are gonna ever see a turbo failure. God luck man
