I know a guy who is parting out a 1977 High Boy and he has a receiver hitch I'm interested in. I have a 78 F150 Ranger Lariat and wondered if anyone knew ... off the top of their head if a hitch that fit on a 77 HighBoy (not sure if it's a F150 or F250) would also fit my 78 F150?
You could always meaure it and find out lol. Or ask him to measure it then you compare that number to your own. To my knowledge though...the frames were pretty much the same width...if anything the length is what differed. Don't hold me to that but I think it would work.

The frame width for the 77 highboy is narrower than your F150. The hitch may be a universal hitch to adjust for different widths. The highboy frame is 4 inches narrower.
The highboy term can get confused. Highboy is referring to the F250 4x4 73-77.5. The 4x2 F250 is not a highboy. If the hitch is coming of a 4x2 than it will work, if it's a 4x4 than it might not.

Most Hitches are universal fit because of the cross piece.
You didn't say what hitch it is.
I suggest going to the REESE Hitch site and look at them.
Rather than think of just the truck.. go look at the hitches that are available to see what applications they have.
If they are specific to Make & Model then there also is a chance the hitch was custom built.
In other words: Search both ends of the topic and arrive at the middle.
I knew you woud come up with something to make me think outside the
box ... Thanks!
I found a guy with a hitch that is coming off a 78 F150.
I have another question for you or anyone else ... my windshield needs to be replaced. I found a windshied off a 76 F150 that is in great shape. Is there a MUCH higher likelihood of the glass breaking during installation because of it's age?
