The cut off date for the early 99 is 12-7-98, anything after that will be a 99.5. They changed some of the suspension after 3-1-99, so someone might have the older suspension with the newer motor.
The early 99 does have a smaller turbo but we don't experience the dreaded turbo surge that comes with having that bigger turbo. Injectors are 120cc for the early VS 140cc for the late 99. I beleive the HPOP is 15 degree on the early and 17 on the late. Stock HP is 235ish for the early, 250ish for the late.
When you start doing your mods it's important to tell your supplier early or late as it will effect your performance. Stick with the stamped dates as badges on doors or quarter panels are unreliable.

My 2 cents,
Jeff
Early 99 4X4 CC DWR, 6637,Straight piped, ISSPro gauges, pyro, boost, water temp, DP Tuner stock, 40tow, 60tow, 80econo, 120race, KCM S.S. HPX line, ITP Overboost Annihilator. In that order .

I have almost converted my e99 to a late 99. All that is left to change that i know of is the hpop and injectors. The turbo is done, the brakes are done.

Do the early trucks run a 110 or 120 volt IDM? I know that they still use alot of the early-model parts (HPOP and such), but there is an "in-between" phase for things like the injectors.

Did you have to change the whole turbo assembly or just the wheel?

If i had it i would. I left everything except my old turbo at the place i did it at. The guy i got all my stuff from had an OBS and wanted to add an inter cooler to his truck so i just gave it to him.

Yeah, thats what I'm doing. The spider is all I'm lacking now. Seems as soon as I started looking for one, they quit popping up on ebay. Oh well, the hunt is still on. Thanks

You could always do the complete swap to a 99.5+ turbo. Then you could also run a turbonetics or a BB turbo also. Linky
