which brand would you recomend. it seems as though every pair of headers for the trucks is 16gauge metal, i could be wrong though. i was looking at the gibson and the bbkbrand headers. does anyone have any experience with any brand of headers they sell for these trucks? good or bad it be nice to have feedback before i drop the money for something like this

I dunno if anybody makes any that are thicker than 16 ga. I'd prefer a header for a truck that's made with 14 ga tubing, but there are few companies that are willing to make one that thick.

I did a search and came across this thread; thought i'd give it a bump and throw my question in here...
I've been looking at the Summit branded shorty headers for my 03 fx4 w/5.4L and am curious if anyone else is running these. I have a pair of Summit headers on my 79, and i'm actually really happy with them. They were relatively inexpensive and of good material and build quality. Can I expect the same from these new ones? And am I correct in assuming that I have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine up to get them in? What all should I expect to install these?
Sorry I have no info but thanxs for the tip. Half the price and I have heard a lot of good about summit. I am waiting for their tech people as I type this on more info.
I have no experience with the Summit headers. I paid almost $500 for my JBAs. I used Headman long tube headers on my last truck. They were well made & didn't cost half what the JBAs did. They did require custom exhaust to install them. I only had to take out one motor mount to install my headers. I did take the fender liners out. Its been 4 yrs since I did mine so I might be forgetting some details.

The JBA truck headers are 14 ga., but only 409 stainless not 304L.
i helped a friend install JBA headers on a king ranch..it took us the better part of the day but its well worth it..he got like 20ponies and it has a nicer deeper tone....its my next mod...my friend better help me
My JBAs are the stainless. I hope they are the 14 guage. They gave me a decent power increase & have lasted well. I was towing 3500lbs 5 days a week when I first installed them. I have no complaints about them.
My headers are not ceramic coated. I wish they were. The ceramic coating cuts the underhood heat better. Mine have gotten darker looking but they haven't rusted. They don't leak which is great. I did retighten them after running them a few days. Doug Thorley makes a set of 14 guage headers for the Ford trucks. I'd take pics of my headers if I could , the only way to get a good pic would require removing the fender liners.
I started installing my headers yesterday, I should have my truck back together tomorrow. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it is a lot of work. I think using a small torch to heat the nuts holding the manifold helped a lot, rust is a pain in the ...! The right motor mount was extra work that should not of been, just a small differance in design and it would be a non-issue. I'm getting excited. I can't what to hear it and feel the differance, I hope there is a little more power.
That's good by me. I love the way a 4.6 revs when you pass someone. My install is complete and I'm diggin the way it looks. They're painted headman headers and they look and installled like a well crafted part, just had a couple bolt hole I had to file the edges to get the bolt in the hole. I'm sure they'll rust, but oh well.
