I have a 78 Ford F150 4x4 w/ a 351M/400 built to a 400 and what would be the best spark plug to use??The motor has been bored 30 over and crank turned 10..
Autolite is a ford plug so I would stick with them. I use the Autolite Racing 133 plug, but i'm pushing 500 horse with cleveland heads on my 400 block. R u running MSD?
Auto-Lite was once a Division of Ford Motor Company, but in the 1970's, the US Government made Ford** sell Auto-Lite because they said Ford had a monoploy on Spark Plugs, and other electical items. So Ford sold Auto-Lite and started a new in house company-Motorcraft.
So, since the 1970's, Auto-Lite is not connected to Ford Motor Company. Ford may recommend an Auto-Lite product, but they no longer own it.
**Ford argued in the 1970's that since GM owned Delco (Dayton Electric Laboratories Company), why couldn't they own Auto-Lite? The governments answer was that GM had owned Delco since 1911, and there were no laws governing monoploys back then...a lame excuse.
No where on any Auto-Lite package will you see "Auto-Lite, a Division of Ford Motor Company"...unless the box is pre 1973 or so.

you've got some big ***** madrock, I give you all the respect in the world. When i was eighteen i had a 88 dodge daytona 2.4 and 89 daytona 2.4 turbo. I put those plugs in both for tune up time and 11 days exactly, both my cars took a crap. They say they are for every car, no gapping needed, this and that. It burnt this spot on my computer motherboard in the exact same spot on both cars. If i had the time and money, there might have been some sort of lawsuit. Good luck with them though.
I have been running the Bosch Platnimum for almost 4 years in my 79 F250 with 400cid with no problems at all. I am also running a set in my 67 bronco with 289cid with over 3 years use with no problems. The plugs were installed by the previous owner in the 79 and have been running flawlessly for at least 5+ years. These are the single electrode plugs and they are specific to the engine they are installed in and gapped with Bosch's special plug gapping tool. I bought the bronco plugs and gapper from LMC.
