I just broke the back window of my 1989 EB tailgate. Slipped out of my hand as i was taking the tailgate down..
I first thought i should just get the window replaced, but the bottom of the tailgate is rusted.. and will need to be replaced at some point.
I will not be doing this myself, my mechanical skills aren't up for the job.. but can anyone tell me where I can get a tailgate w/window and everything? I'd like to have some ideas on prices before I bring it to a shop.
As far as I know, which aint much, the only place you can get a tailgate with everything is at a junkyard, or someone selling one. The shells run from 250 to 300 or so, and thats just the shell, no latch rods, hinges or anything.
My only recomendation is that you get a Ford factory tailgate not an aftermarket. I relaced my tailgate with a non-factory and it doesn't line up very well and the window binds. I have tried every kind of adjustment possible and the fact is that is is a piece of crap.
Original tailgates are very hard to come by because they are in such demans. I know ebay sells a "new" tailgate for about $300 without any of the internal parts, but this is a much thinner sheet metal and will dent fairly easily.
I have never replaced a tailgate before and I was lucky enough to find a 93 eddie bauer tailgate in perfect condition for $100! Of course that was a steal. Replacing the actual tailgate is easy enough if you do just a little bit of research. I think there might even be a "how to" on this website.
Anyway, I know this might not help you much but I think you should go for it!
Jeffs bronco graveyard. I just checked and they have listed 83-95 oem factory tailgate shell (no internals) for 700.00 and a 83-95 aftermarket tailgate shell for 250.00 they also list a diamond plate cover for the inside panel for 95.00 that I think I am going to look into. There is also another place here in Michigan in Chesterfield Township called G and T number is 586-949-2475 they are out on 22 and gratiot. They specialize in 4x4 and truck parts, you might want to try them and see if they have something used. Good Luck.
FIRST MY THANKS TO ALL THE FORUM USERS WHO PROVIDED ME WITH HELP ON TOWING WEIGHTS ETC. FOR MY 89 EB.
I HAD CONGRADULATED MYSELF ON HAVING NO RUST ON MY TAILGATE UNTIL TODAY WHEN I NOTICE A SMALL PLACE AT THE BOTTOM WHERE THE PAINT HAD BUBBLED, AND FOUND THAT I DO HAVE RUST UNDER THE BOTTOM EDGE OF MY TAILGATE. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANYWAY TO REPLACE PART OF THE TAILGATE; SINCE THE REST IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. ANY SUGGESTIONS/ IDEAS/ OR INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I'M SURE I CAN'T DO THIS MYSELF BUT WHERE I LIVE IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND PARTS FOR A BRONCO.(I HAD TO SEARCH 3 MONTHS TO FIND A PARTIAL SHELL IN AN AUTO GRAVEYARD TO FIND AN ARMREST, AND THERE WASNT MUCH ELSE LEFT)
THANKS TO ANY WHO CAN HELP.

I just replaced my hole tailgate and now have all the guts & window for sale let me know if ya need any of it. the truck is a 86 and I put a 90 model tailgate on itI even got lucky the paint maches ill post mew pics soon.:+
I have a tailgate problem taht is slightly differsnt than the previous posts. And that is the outside sheetmetal has cracked, the first 2 inches down where the metal flange folds over inside sheetmetal. I suspect it is caused from the constant vibrations and jarring from the weight of the spare with road travel. Does anybody have a good fix for this. If I can keep it tight now ,I can save the gate. Maybe a flush rivet were it sandwhiches together; but that would look like a hammared dog terd. Great Board!!
