Tailgate bumpers (rubber)

In an effort to reduce rattles and to get my tailgate to fit tighter, I ordered new tailgate chains and rubber tailgate "side of tailgate to bed bumpers" and "tailgate support retaining bumpers" from Dennis Carpenter. The chains are obviously a no brainer, but I have no idea where the rubbers are supposed to go. Can anyone give me some direction on the rubber parts?

Thanks,

Kurt

I assume you are talking about the 3 inch "blocks". They go in the channel of the tailgate near the top. The tailgate overlaps the flange of the box sidewall. If you look carefully you will see two tabs which are what keeps the blocks in position. If this description does not help just say so and I'll get you a picture tomorrow morning. By the way they will really stiffen up the gate and sidewalls.

Okay, that info was very helpful. For the first time since I've owned the truck, my tailgate latches tight. Any idea on the "tailgate support retaining bumpers" from Dennis Carpenter?

What year is your truck, is it a Styleside or a Flareside?

You said in post 1 that you bought tailgate chains, so I assume you have a Flareside.

So why did you buy Styleside tailgate rubber bumpers?

Look at this 1964/66 Styleside pic for basic part number 44482 located above and to the right of the D of the tailgate, between the striker plate (431B54) and the hinge (43000).

1957/60 Styleside beds installed on the following 1961/66's. Called the "wrong" beds, because the bed lines don't match the cab lines.

1961/65 F100/250 4WD / 1961/66 F350 / 1962/63 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F250 4WD

The Styleside tailgate rubber bumpers you bought (C4TZ-9944482-A - retained w/a screw) are for Stylesides: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/72 F100/350 (see pic of this bed in post 9).

Lower pic: "Wrong" bed:

Is the "side of tailgate to bed bumpers" (DC part# BAAA-8340725-A) the only rubber that a '63 has on the tailgate, apart from the small ones on the latch on the chain?

B in DC's catalog (B3TZ-8340725-A) are for 1953/79 Flaresides & 1957/60 Styleside beds also used on some 1961/66's.

Ford truck parts catalog calls them "anti-rattlers" they are 1/2" x 4 1/2"

DC uses Ford part numbers in his catalogs.
