Gray Wheels!
Hey guys, i have an F150 XL with rusting gray steel wheels. I want to know how I can go about spraying them black. Im not sure what steps to do (sanding,priming, etc. Could someone break it down for me?? thanks

you can make it a 5 min project or you can make it a 5 day project, but id mainly be concerned about getting the rust and flaky paint off before you paint. you can mask off the tires, or have them broke down, even have them sand blasted and powder coated, its all up to how much time and $$$$ you want to spend.

Black steel wheels from U.S. wheel start at under $40.00 each, brand new. Assuming that you are gonna try to do a nice job on your existing wheels you might only spend $ 15.00 to $ 20.00 per wheel, (if you only paint them) plus your time, and labor. When it is all said and done you will still have a factory wheel that is painted black. A shiny new set that can be done with one trip to the tire store seems like the real bargain to me.

May I add to the excellent post above, that 30 year old wheels will develop cracks, and the lug holes will become oval over time. Wheels also get bent.
For that price, I'd buy all 5.
