ok, first off, i know a lot of 90 model fords have the steering whine. but in a 79????? i never had an older ford like this whine so bad. it is to the point that i am embarrased to drive it. the power steering pump looks new on the truck, and i don't think the steering bow would do it. any suggestions out there? should i just get another pump or what..HELP ME!!!!

ry to find some Lucas Power Steering additive. Use it or try to find some "Hi Tack" it is in a blue bottel. Advance Auto Parts has them both. That will quiet it down if it is possible. You need to drain the fluid and put in new if you are not shure if it is correct. Good luck.
You can make this easier by removing the fluid from the reservoir with a turkey baster. This way you don't have to crawl under the truck and make a mess when you pull the low pressure hose. Also, the turkey basters are marked in ounces, so you can measure exactly how much you are taking out. I did this to a rebuilt NAPA ps pump that I bought, unfortunately it did not work as the pump was defective and very loud (I don't recommend NAPA pumps for this reason). But it should help with a mildly whining pump.
