Hi....My Bro-in-law is having a problem
(also trying to join here and having a problem there too....no luck at all)
99 Explorer XLT, 4.0, 115,000 miles.........here's what is happening
Check Engine light came on.......tested at Advance Auto and the code said lean fuel. He asked me and I asked if he's ever changed the fuel filter....no.
took it to a good shop (done a lot of work for me and are pretty good) and they put a new fuel filter in and still had the light......they put their diagnostic machine on it.....determined that everything checked "in specs" and told him it might be the MAF because they had no way to check that.
New(rebuilt we think)(bought at Parks Auto Parts here) MAF ($125) and the light stayed off a day.......testing at Advance again showed (i don't remember the codes) but it was "lean fuel bank #1 and #2"
Truck runs fine....no hesitation....smooth idle.....doesn't die.....seems to be great.
Anybody got any ideas of what to check or look for?....intake gasket?.....??
as always.....thanks in advance
fuel pressure was checked by the first shop and was in specs.......they checked all they could and their thoughts was the MAF.......
About 2 months ago the light came on and he had it checked and turned off.....put injector cleaner in it at that time......light stayed off about 2 weeks and came back........maybe more??
You have a vacuum leak.. Check the PCV valve, the PCV hose, and all vacuum hoses for leaks (or not being hooked up properly).. if that's all good, then start it cold and spray carb cleaner around the engine compartment while listening for an idle change. If you notice a change in idle then the leak is where you just sprayed!
If you still can't find it, then replace the intake gaskets.
