is it trans?

another prob... when i go into reverse on a cold engine, i need to wait about a minute for a "pop" then i can go ahead and back up. If i don't wait, it does nothing but will jerk when the pop occurs. I learned just to wait for that pop, it has been happening for awhile. If it's nothing urgent, i would rather wait to fix it, due to the fact of the money being spent on my "mystery" problem. (See other message)... any ideas?

Start by making sure the trans fluid is at the correct level.

No matter how warm my truck is, mine does the same thing. Does it actually take a full minute? Mine's about 15 seconds at most. I have a 94 explorer, and I think it's just the tranny getting old. The only solution I know of would be to rebuild the tranny.
