Rear Ends and Ratios

What rear end and gear ratios were common in the 87 302 4 speed and 90 302 5 speed broncos?

3.55 was the most common. 4.10 was an option and so was 3.08.

were they matched up in any particular way to the transmission? also is the axle tag the same format as my ranger's?

I dont know if they are matched to the tranny. the axle tag should be simlar. do a search with what yours says. should come up with something like 3l55 type thing

I had never seen 3.08s in a Bronco until I saw my buddy's 89.
I've heard of it once, but wasn't sure if it was true. I have never seen a stock bronco with 4.10s, but have heard of people with them every now and then.

Like kemicalburns said, the axle tag on the rear bolt cover should read 3l55 for a 3.55 gear ration w/ limited slip or 3.08 for 3.08 gears w/ open diff.

Both will have a 8.8 rear end.
