I was just looking around on ebay and they list about 15 different chips/modules for my truck that all claim they do the same thing, however prices range from about $50 to $1.50. I beleive that it is all just bull*****. Has anybody tried any of these modules?
I installed a Hypertech module in my '95 F-150 302cid with some noticeable power increase (especially in the higher RPM), but I get the feeling that I am getting hosed everytime I am filling up on premium gas. Given the price of the more name brand chips/modules, I would have done things differently, ie installing a roller conversion kit or roller rocker arms, or saving the blown cash on the upcoming exhaust project (which ironically I have started researching all of the above today in earnest).
What you see on ebay is a resistor. The trick is to put a resistor inline to either the coolant temp sender or the intake air temp sender. It was a viable option back in stone age of automotive computers, but now, ignore them and get a tuner.
