i have a 79 bronco, and i was looking for the tag that tells the gears. well i didn't find it! is there any other way to tell my gears besides lifting the rear end up and spinning the tires? is it on the vin at all? or did they only come with one set of gears, i was told it might be 3.50 gears and if they are i need to know so i can save up for a set of 4.56

most broncos have a AXLE code in the drivers door sticker. I don;t remember the codes but they're easy to find ina search engine.

Well Andy I'll tell ya.You probabaly have 3:50's.And to install 4:56 you need to buy ring/pinion and differentials.Cause the differential diamiters are different on the 3:50 and the 4:56.3:50 will go to 4:11,that way all you need to do is ring and pinions.Good luck

You probably have 3.55 not 3.50 there should be a tag on your diff if not there is a code on the door sticker that will tell you. Randys ring and pinion makes 456 gears for all kinds of diffs I am not sure what you have but I highly dought you need to trade your diff housing to get 456 gears. I have done several gear swaps in my fords and never have changed a housing. They even make 456 gears for ford ibeam housings such as a dana 50. You probaly have a dana 44 front solid axle and I am not sure about your rear. Find out what you have and give randys ring and pinion a call.

thanks for the help guys. if i have to change everything, i think i will just stick with 4.11. save me some money, other wise if all i need gears then 4.56 it is.
